Ring Alarm won’t recover from Cellular backup without manual intervention
troubleshooting
base-station

After losing internet connection when WiFi went down, Ring Alarm went to cellular backup. The next morning, it was still on cellular backup even though WiFi was back online. I tried 15 times to reconnect to WiFi, I tried 4 different SSIDs in my house. I confirmed I could connect with other devices and had max signal at 10 feet from the router. Ring Alarm failed to connect every time. To get Ring Alarm back online, I connected my Ring Alarm to my router via Ethernet cable. This worked fine and I could now control the Alarm and installed devices, but then When the router restarted the next night, Ring Alarm lost connection to internet and went to cellular backup again. When the router finished rebooting, Ring Alarm stayed on cellular backup even though Ethernet had restored. I tried a quick unplug and replug of the Ethernet cable with no success, so I unplugged Ethernet for 30 seconds and then the Ring Alarm reconnected to internet and I was again able to access it. Is there any way to make The network Restore after cellular backup reliable without having to physically unplug a cable every time?

Sorry to see this concern is persisting for some neighbors. If you’ve already tried Tom_Ring’s suggestion above:
try rebooting your internet router to see if that will allow your Base Station to reconnect. You can also reboot your [Base Station ](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027910672-Base-Station-Help-FAQs) to prompt it to restore the wifi connection. To perform a reboot of the Base Station, use a pushpin to TAP (not hold) the reset button.
For neighbors who are using Ethernet connection, I recommend following these steps to properly set the desired network connection method: - Open the Ring app and visit the Menu - Select Devices - Select Base Station - Tap the Device Settings tile - Select Network Settings - Choose to change connection and follow the prompts to pair your phone Please select Ethernet and complete the setup. Feel free to continue to share anything else that you've noticed help you out. :)

June 13, 2021…Ring Base Station STILL will not connect to WiFi without physical intervention. This is common knowledge and available for anyone on the internet. If someone nefarious is looking for a weakness in a security system, they’ve just found it. Can you imagine the lawsuit against Ring if something bad were to happen under this software bug that has been left unanswered? As of today, this thread is15 months old with no fix. Ring was acquired by Amazon, which means they clearly have the staff of engineers capable to fixing this problem quickly and easily. The response that they are busy with COVID-19 response is a legal side-step. Class-action lawsuit anyone?

Having the same issue here and tried everything suggested except hardwiring. It’s ridiculous to spend as much money as we did for something that doesn’t work 3 months later! System cost almost $1400, should have just buy the bullet and went with a REAL alarm company! Please stop cheating people and fix this issue!

Same issue now in May 2021. Lost internet from a brief power outage and all my household devices reconnected except my Ring Alarm. My Base Station was already configured with Ethernet so it's not just a wifi issue.

Same issue, called support and they just want to reset over and over, but it happens whenever the wifi goes out- maintenance, moving a switch, moving an AP, power outage....doesn'tmatter why ....why isn't it fixed?

Just another Me Too! This is insane you have to hard reset your device when WiFi blips out. My alarm is mounted on a wall - yes, that's my fault not Ring's, but climbing up each time to hard reset is crazy. Ring, why won't you address this? Why pretend this bug doesn't exist.
