New With Concern about a Guideline

Hi everyone,

I’m new here since the home we just purchased had a Ring included, we subscribed since it seems like a good idea for safety and to prevent package theft.

I was reading through the community guidelines, though, and saw one thing that seems to be incorrect.

My husband is a mailman, has delivered mail for over 20 years. I know through him that it is illegal for anyone but the USPS to put items into mailboxes. The guidelines say that it might be innocent behavior, putting a flyer in mailboxes, but innocent or not it is against the law.

Yes, people can access mailboxes with the owner’s permission, say to get the neighbor’s mail for them while they are out of town, but flyers are not one of those things.

I will share the actual law here, and I hope this gets corrected. Thank you!
