Motion alerts stopped working on Alexa devices

troubleshooting

We have a Ring doorbell 2 and a few Alexa Dots. Until recently motion was announced on the Alexas along with doorbell rings but recently the motion alerts have stopped but rings are still working.I’ve tried:* rebooting the devices* check that motion announcements are enabled in the ring Alexa app* disable and enable ring skillWe have a chime in one room which is working for movement alerts. I’ve created a routine that turns a light on when there is motion which is working too.

Having this issue, and weirdly, ringing the doorbell works, live view works, but motion view is met with an error about the camera failing to start.

Hi neighbors! If you're no longer receiving Motion announcements on your Alexa device, please try the following troubleshooting steps below: - Ensure your Ring device and Alexa device are both connected to wifi- Make sure your Ring app and the Alexa app are both updated- Disable the Ring Skill from the Alexa app and Re-enable it- Toggle the Motion Announcements off and back on- Check the Announcement Devices and ensure you have the right Echo devices selected to receive announcements onIf this concern persists, you can [click here to go to Amazon's Alexa Help Center](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201602230), and you can follow up with our support team at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). I have the same issue. I turn the motion detection on in the Alexa app. Close out of the app and go back in and it is off again. multiple cameras/Alexa devices and multiple locations all have the same issue. It isn’t an isolated problem, but a flaw in the software I really wish you would fix. I purchased these systems because I was told they were compatible. Clearly they are not.

In just the last few days Alexa stopped saying "Motion Detected at the Front Door" when there is motion detected as well as stopped saying "Someone is at the Front Door" when the doorbell is rang. The only thing that I can think of that changed was my wife's Android phone (which is the "owner" of all the devices connected to Alexa) was updated to the new "One UI" OS operating system. That whacked a bunch of permissions and such which I've tried to restore, but so far that hasn't helped. I've also tried all of the suggested fixes, including (https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050373832-What-to-do-if-your-Ring-and-Alexa-Features-Stopped-Working-) to no avail. I think something else has gotten whacked by the OS update that has broken the announcements. I'm wondering if the announcement problem for other folks also coincides with an Android OS update.

Just went through this issue and finally got it fixed. Hope it works for others. You need to unlink your Amazon account from within your ring app. Go to your account settings and look for your linked Amazon account. Click it and then hit the unlink account. After your unlink it, go into your Alexa app in your skills section. Find Ring and enable the skill. If it’s still showing as already enabled, disable it, and then re-enable it. When you go to link your account, hit the enable skill and link account option. After you do all the setup and it finds your cameras, make sure you go into the settings on your cameras (within the Alexa app) and make sure the announcements are turned on. Give it a try. Hopefully it works. If not, contact Ring support.

Your method worked for me. Thank you! I've tried everything else, including support from Ring and Amazon. You are the only one to figure it out.
