More or Custom Chime and Chirp Tones in the Ring App
tones-and-alerts
app-request

It seems many of us want more Alert/Chirp sounds to choose from. Different sounds would make it easy to listen and immediately know which Ring device is activated. But instead of having Ring pick additional sounds for us, would it be possible to add an alert/chirp sound called "Custom" and then provide a method for the user to "Import" a sound file into this custom slot? Even better, provide "Custom 1", "Custom 2", and Custom 3", etc. That way the user could import several different sounds according to their specific needs. There are plenty of Sound Files that can be downloaded free off the Internet. And you could even make your own sound file or voice-recording file too! Instead of just "Motion at your Front Door", you'd be able to make "Back door is open", or "Motion at your Backyard Cam." I bet some people wound make some funny/unique sound files to use as their custom alert/chirp sounds! What do you think?

I want to be able yo upload my own mp3 file to play when the doorbell is pressed. This would need to be also be uploaded to any chime (multiple files for the chime, one for each bell). I want to choose what plays rather being told what should be played when someone presses my doorbell. With my old doorbell i could upload up to 8 mp3 files for the bell to use. I could change it regularly depending on the season. Just because its called a doorbell does not mean it had to play bells or, or even appalling electronically generated sounds of bells.

[@Boone](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/73098) I have already supported the customisation of alarm sounds that you posted on here but really this is not the same thing. This request is about the sounds the doorbell make when the button is pressed...nothing to do with the alarm system.

@snigehere , The sound your doorbell makes is an App **Alert** Tone for your rings (doorbell button depressed), such as Ring Default, Antique Ding Dong, Ping Pong, Cowbell, etc. So mine wasn't just meant for alarm system devices, but rather meant to have the additional "Custom" added to the list of available App Alert Tones where you could import your personal sound file into that "Custom" spot, for any Ring device, including the Chime & Chime Pro, and any device that has Alert Tone or Chirp sound selection list. So then it could be heard on your Chime/Chime Pro device, Base Station, and Ring App too. :) Many thanks too for the "Thumbs Up" on my Feature Request Board :) :)

[@Boone](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/73098) Maybe I am not correct but as far as I can see there are two sets of sounds here ... and the reason for my post is that I beleive the text of your request just deals with the second set. The first set is stored in the bell device and the chime unit - these sound when the bell is pressed ... and the second set are the ones in the app itself which sound through the device the app is running on. As far as I can see the ones in the bell sound regardless of it being connected so if the device is off line they still sound. The chime needs to be online but they are a defined set of tones available to choose from in the chime unit. I already use my alexa to make announcements based on the bell push - eg alexa announces "there is someone at the door" when the bell is pushed ... but the person standing on the doorstep just hears the one I selected from the limited choice of tones in the bell itself ... and the app running on my phone plays the tones I selected there which could be different from the doorbell. I previosly had an MP3 doorbell where I could upload a sound file and it would use that so I could change the tune depending on the season and how I felt ... I could use "happy birthday" on the days of peoples birthdays, a christmas tune at christmas etc ... So .. my request is specifically about being able to load tunes to the bell and chime devices and not related to the tunes the app plays - from reading your request it did not seem to cover this first set of tunes.

This should be quite simple to accomplish. I will see what I can do with this as now I'm intrigued by this request. I will post results in a bit as I am currently on a mission to find a separate answer.

      > Hello @Zoupem , If you had a "Custom" option then you could import any seasonal/holiday sound or chime that you desire. You would not be limited to the choices that Ring selects, nor be disappointed when Ring removes that seasonal sound. Add your Kudo vote to the link below if you like the idea of having Customized App Alert Tones & customized Chirp Tones. We are now up to three cameras. My wife says to me, you need to make the chime sound differently for each camera. The tone was "why didnt you set it up correctly". I told her I looked for this when setting it up, but its not possible. She said "well thats just a flaw in the system then" I don't want to argue with my wife, but she's right - this is an obvious feature which should be included in the system. My 12 year old was like - that should be a pretty easy software change. He's right too, assuming its structured correctly, the chime should know which camera is being activated and therefore should be able to pick a unique sound. So Ring, whats the problem - just add this simple feature and make your customers happy.

Hello [@abittman](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/88887) , To clarify, you do have a limited selection of different available "App Alert Tones" or "Chirp Alert" sounds that you can use for your three cameras. Your three cameras don't have to sound the same **on your Ring App**. But if you are referring to the sound on a **Ring Chime** or **Ring Chime Pro** device, then yeah, you are stuck with only one sound emanating out of that chime device for all three cameras. But as for the sounds coming from your Ring App, you have three cameras and there are more than three Tones available. In my case, I have more cameras than there are total selection choices. So I would like the Custom App Alert Tones/Chirp sounds in order not to be limited by the current selections. For you Ring App sounds, you can change your three camera sounds by going to main menu \> Devices \> select a camera \> scroll to and then select Device Settings (the Gear Icon) \> Alert Settings \> App Alert Tones \> and then make your choice for which sound & volume you would like to assign to that camera. This **Alert sound** will be heard on your **App** , and if you have a Ring Alarm system it **also** would be heard on your **Base Station and Keypad**. In my case, I have more cameras than available sounds selections, so I prefer the "Custom Request" option. Currently I have my multiple cameras on the west-side all assigned as "Cowbells" and my multiple east-side are all barking "Dogs." So at least I can hear which side of the building the motion is on, but I can't tell which exact individual camera sounding. I have to look and read the 'push' text Notification on my App to determine which camera it is. But with your three cameras, you should be able to make three different sound choices for your Ring App, one for each camera. I hope this helps you :)
