Trying to figure out how I can enable certain sensors at different times of the day.
Thought adding a new mode or split the home mode into home - Day mode and home -Night mode would be possible as i need to have different alarm sensor rooms / zones active at night vs day. Disarmed mode cannot be configured to add sensors and Away mode does not help as its a different use-case.
I am told by Ring support just now that you cannot do it in an automated or scheduled way so i will have to edit the sensors included in home mode manually every time twice a day.
I am sure there would be a way to achieve this basic functionality. Any thoughts how to achieve this?
Something to automatically silence doorbell chimes for a scheduled period during the day, triggers quick responses, and sends notification alerts to mobile devices.
It would be nice to be able to enable modes for a single device, on a schedule.
My front door & sliding glass door are always included in the Away mode; however, they are not always included in the Home mode because during the day, I like having the ability to go in/out the doors without the hassle of the alarm system. I sometimes change them to be included in the Home mode before I go to sleep, but it becomes a hassle when I forgot to disable them in the morning & then walk out a door & the alarm gets triggered (especially the sliding glass door - which is set as a secondary door).
I would like the ability to set a schedule that would enable/disable Home mode for these devices. Then I would have the peace of mind knowing that if a door were opened while I was asleep, that the alarm would go off (as it should).
Ring needs to add a way to save multiple setting configurations for Modes.
For example, when I go to sleep, I want my kitchen motion sensor to trigger an alarm, and I want my indoor camera to detect motion and record.
But when I am at home in the evening prior to going to sleep, I just want perimeter sensors (doors and windows) active, and the camera disabled.
I understand why Ring wants to keep the Modes to a simple set of 3. And I am fine with editing my Home mode when I go to sleep. But having to change the settings for all the devices individually is getting tiresome, and I have only owned this system for less than a week.
The app just needs to have a way to save Mode settings as a set, and allow us to easily switch between them.
There are many threads here asking for a “Sleep Mode”, and my suggestion would satisfy all of those needs with a software change, and nothing that needs to overhaul the way the system already works.
Perhaps I am saying the same thing here. I would like to see more than three modes (currently only one per arming level). Perhaps something like Disarmed #1, #2, Home #1, etc., with customizable names. In my case this would be particularly useful with video recording. It would enable turning multiple cameras on or off at once without changing the arming level of the security system. At present I have to disable motion detection one camera at a time which is burdensome. As an example I might like to turn off cameras facing a certain direction outdoors or in certain rooms when family activities are in progress. The usefulness of such a feature would extend to other components and features besides cameras and video recording.
Hi gc22 & jgsel
What if you set your home mode in the way you want prior to going to bed, then when you go to bed set the away mode as the other way you like. I have posted a request for camera notification schedules to be added to the mode settings which is kind of like some of the things I see hear. I do the same thing when I get to the cottage. I disarm, then have to go to each camera and manually enable my camera notification sleep schedule for each camera while I’m there so I don’t keep getting notifications while I’m walking around the yard doing stuff. Then I have to remember to turn off those camera sleep schedules when I leave so I get notifications again. Needs to be a little more flexibility for each of our and others needs as everyone has different requirements.
Absolutely agree! Sad that this doesn’t have more votes.
With more than one or two cameras, it gets to be a pain to turn off motion detection and turn them back on. For example, with Disarmed, I leave all outside cameras with motion detection. But if I need to go outside to do yard work, I would like to turn off motion detection on outside cameras so that I am not constantly triggering them. Then, turn motion detection back on when I am done with yard work.
Please add an extra mode that allows you to customize a frequently used setting and notification scheme different from standard Disarm, Home and Away. For example, with the additional mode you could possibly disable certain alerts and functions when doing yard work or other frequent movement around cameras and motion detectors. This would be a global mode affecting all devices with the app to the same account, and would help with snooze issues many device owners have when multiple users exist. It also allows for standard modes to be used as intended when a home, away and disarmed.
