Have recently purchased a ring door bell which came with a plug in chime device. The previous owner has de registered the ring door bell so that’s up and running. But they can let deregister the chime device. It shows them as per the photo that it’s disconnected when the looking for it. What can I do?
Hey @Evilgenius. Two things you are running into here. The first concern is that it is still tied to the previous owners account, and has to be removed and deleted from their app in order to actually allow you to set up the device. The second concern is the trending issue we are having with iOS app and removing the original Chime. We have found that users on iOS are unable to remove the original Chime from their account, and we are working to fix this with the next app update. If you can, ask the previous owners to remove the device from an Android app, and once the Chime is removed from the account (offline status means the device is still on their account), then you can set it up without this error message of the previous owner still “owning” the device.
In the event that the previous owner cannot get an Android device to remove the Chime from their account, you can give our support team a call to get this matter escalated up as a device ownership escalation. For that matter, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. We’re taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19. This has resulted in longer than normal wait times. If you are outside of the US, please read our response to COVID-19 here to see how to contact support.
Ok that’s great thanks. I don’t think the previous owner has an Android device or it’s registered with the Chime. The owner is going to ring the UK number tomorrow and find out what to do.
