I am trying to reconnect a smart garage control

I am having problems connecting a chamberlain smart garage control to my wifi. One of the solutions is to power cycle my router (in my ring alarm pro 6) and try reconnecting the garage control to the wifi.  I believe this means turning the power off the alarm pro 6 and powering it back on. In addition to unplugging the power cord, should I remove the internal battery at the same time and then plug the battery back in to completely power the unit down?  Is this safe to do. If not is there another to accomplish this? Does resetting the alarm pro achieve the same thing? Please advise.
