Speed Camera of cars flying by
I live on a quiet street, with occasional vehicles that are driving way faster than the speed limit. I would love to be able to leverage my Ring Security Camera to be able to calculate the speed of vehicles driving by in the road in front of my house. I know I could do this with a Raspberry PI and OpenCV, but it would be great to be able to get this into the Ring feature set. I am glad to contribute to the repo if you guys are thinking about enabling this capability.

Actually, I also imagine anything “stopping” in front of my house, would also be useful for me to be informed of. - Amazon vans - Visitors’ cars - dog walkers - dogs - burglars - Bill Murray Doesn’t need to be accurate. Happy to be informed of anything stopping or even moving super slow.

Second this, would love to be able to do this and be able to download a csv of car speeds to turn into the police.

Hi, Since ring have camera in the community it could be nice to use that kind of power to give people the option to activate a new feature to track car speed of the street ! We are able to get people pass by with identification on people. I’m sure it could be a nice add-on to have identification for vehicule to track car speed and get a dashboard with data, like, speed, average, by day or period of the day ! I’m in canada and the speed is like 30km/h and it’s not like people respect it. (XXXX maybe more…) it’s full of kids!! They put sometime car speed detector on the road, but anyone know that, when that device is installed, anyone will slower it speed, for the time of the trial with that thing !! if we can collect some data on our end, we could provide the right people with true information that could help make right decision on the street security ! What king of car speeds, when in the days, etc. !! I could really use this. We have live on a 30 mph street with kids playing and get cars traveling over 55 mph. This should be a fairly straight forward software upgrade.

It would be very handy to be notified of vehicles passing my house above the speed limit. Assuming that most doorbells are facing the road. The information could also be shared via the Neighbors app to notify you when there is a speeding driver in the neighbourhood so that you can warn your kids on bikes etc. Doesn’t need to be accurate, so could be video based. Doesn’t need to confirm that it is really a vehicle. Happy to also be notified in the event of anything going past my house over the speed limit. Low flying jet fighter, cheetah, my post carrier... being chased by the cheetah.
