Wired doorbell but don't want a chime

Is it possible to simply install a wired doorbell but only use the app, not install a chime? In our new house we currently have no other doorbell at all wired in, so we're getting a Ring. We only want to use the app to alert us, as it's too much hassle to install a chime inside. But from what I’ve read, it appears that you need to fiddle around a lot with the Ring doorbell to bypass the chime, even though I don’t want one.
