Spotlight Cam (1st gen) error, troubleshooting, and now non-functional
My Ring Spotlight Camera (Gen 1) was working like a champ for 2 years straight. Then one day I got an error message indicating that the front battery door is open. Prior to contacting technical support team, I took the initiative to inspect the battery compartment for any obstructions and confirmed that the hatch was securely latched, as evidenced by the audible click upon closure. Despite these measures, the camera remained non-functional. In an attempt to resolve the issue, I adhered to the recommended reset procedure by pressing and holding the setup button for a duration of 20 seconds. Regrettably, this action resulted in the camera ceasing to respond entirely. I reached out to Ring technical support. Despite the representative’s efforts and multiple troubleshooting steps, the camera’s functionality could not be restored. I would like to note that this camera served as a replacement for my initial purchase and has been in use for just over two years. It’s really disappointing to be forced to buy a replacement camera for one that is only 2 years old! While I am aware that the device is no longer covered by the standard 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, I previously received a replacement for my original unit under similar circumstances (which was also out of warranty). The reluctance of Ring to acknowledge the recurring issue or to enhance communication regarding potential resolutions has led to concerns about the reliability of their products and services. Any suggestions for further troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi @aerogeek2020. The main troubleshooting steps for this concern would be to ensure the battery is fully charged, and to reset the Spotlight Cam. I know you mentioned performing a reset already, so the only other suggestion I could make is to verify that the battery has been fully charged. If you’ve already checked that, then unfortunately there aren’t any other troubleshooting suggestions we could provide. The standard warranty is 1 year, but this can be extended with the Ring Protect Plus plan. Subscribing to the Plus plan before the standard warranty expires will extend it for as long as you are subscribed to the plan.
