Transfer a basic subscription

Hi. I had my device replaced due to a faulty battery. I have a home basic subscription and have found out that I’m not allowed to trasfer this subscription to my new device. The old one was bought in April 2024 and when I tried to charge the battery this week it didn’t charge at all. I went back to the store I bought it in and they replaced it. Do I actually need to pay for s new subscription when the reason for it is a faulty battry on my old device?
