Ring Video Doorbell 2 and battery question
troubleshooting
hardwired-battery-video-doorbell
I have a hardwired video doorbell 2 that we got in 2017. At the time, we were told that the battery was to keep the device working in case of a power outage. And for years, it worked that way. But for the last year or two, I've had to remove and charge the battery every month or so because the device won't work otherwise. Why isn't it being powered by being hardwired anymore? (Yes, we checked connections and nothing wrong there, power is getting to the doorbell just fine)

Hi @GadgetGirl. To clarify, battery powered Ring Doorbells are always powered by the rechargeable battery. When you hardwire a battery powered Doorbell, the wiring provides a trickle charge to the battery to help keep it topped off between manual charges. This doesn't charge the battery as quickly as manually plugging it in with the provided charging cable. If you find that the battery is draining more quickly than expected, it could be due to a few different factors, such as activity or the wifi signal. I'd recommend checking out [this Help Center article](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405531384468-Fixing-Unexpected-Battery-Drain-in-Video-Doorbell-or-Security-Cameras) for more information and troubleshooting steps. For further assistance with excessive battery drain, I'd recommend reaching out to our [support team](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406#callus) to take a closer look.
