Motion Zone Settings
After adjusting the motion zones where I wanted coverage, the app still records motion where I don't want to record such as the street with passing cars.

Hi there, @lid535! In addition to the steps recommend above in this thread, you may also find interest in @Caitlyn_Ring's [Guide to Optimizing your Video Doorbell's Motion Detection](https://community.ring.com/t/caitlyn-s-guide-to-optimizing-your-doorbell-s-motion-detection/48107). If you have a Camera device instead, feel free to confirm which kind for more specific suggestions. To answer your question about people only mode, this motion setting is designed to pick up human like movement. Feel free to also check out our [help center article](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032947972-Refining-Your-Alert-Notifications-with-People-Only-Mode) about people only mode for more information. I hope this helps! :)

SI have the same problem also. It picks up cars driving by & people on the sidewalk. But it doesn't pick up my husband getting into his truck & driving away. Another incident was some kids messing around in the neighborhood. I pulled up our video & it didn't record until the kids were right next to the truck. I have tried & tried to adjust the zone but it doesn't help. This is on a back door that is wide open to the driveway & street. My husband parks 1.5 car widths over from the doorbell camera. What can I do to fix this??

JHave you tried adding multiple zones. Depending on device, you should be able to add multiple zones, which will precisly activate the VMD settings once motion is detected. I had a similar issue, when I added multiple zones it pretty much solved it.

AI said in my post that I generated three zones. One zone for the driveway and two zones for the left and right side of the driveway.

JHi sorry i responded to someone elses post. Have you tried however reducing the motion zones even smaller within the area you want the motion detection, so for example having a 2×4 VMD zone, instead making it 1×2, to try and reduce compensation effects which VMD reguraly has. It can pick up the slightest pixel colour or density change.

I bought the Stick it cam solar to be able to check on cars and people entering my driveway. I just got an alert when a car passed my house. I know that the three motion zones *absolutely* do not include any portion of the street in front of my house. I cannot believe that this can happen unless Ring’s testing of software in real life situations is NON-EXISTANT. What do I do now beyond disabling alerts which makes my security purchase worthless?

I saw and participated in many threads discussing the erroneous alerts for motion outside the motion zones. ALERT TO RING!!! YOU HAVE A MAJOR FIRMWARE PROBLEM. IT IS TIME TO GET TO WORK AND SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY BASIC BUT YOUR IMAGE PROCESSING FIRMWARE IS A FAILED PRODUCT. YOU ADVERTISE CAPABILITIES YOU CANNOT DELIVER IN YOUR PRODUCTS. I OWN TWO CAMERAS AND A DOORBELL. THE MOTION ZONE PROBLEM IS EVIDENT IN ALL. A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

I have another question: what is the length of the “short time” after a motion detect event that the camera stops detecting new motion? I am asking because I think the time break in detection results in seeing my car go out of my garage but does not record my return about 5 minutes later. I also saw a visitor that walked around the driveway to get to my backward and he spent about a half an hour talking with me. He left after that half hour and his walking over the driveway has not been recorded. That “short time” is a ridiculously long delay. How is that usable in the real world? The Ring engineers are missing real world experience. I have a solar panel that charges the battery so I changed the Frequency settings to the Always Active setting. Edit: I set the Motion Detection Frequency setting to Always Active but Ring just ignored it. I saw my sanitation go into my side yard to get the garbage cans but I never saw him come out. Ring has all these controls with buttons but most of it is just for show. The show makes the pathetic firmware look capable in order to hide its faults.

Hi there, @Az91702! Which model Ring device are you using? Depending on device, there are various motion settings such as [people only mode](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032947972-Refining-Your-Alert-Notifications-with-People-Only-Mode), which will fine tune your alerts to human caused events. We've recently made some changes to motion on battery powered devices, allowing for customizable motion zones. Check out our [Community post](https://community.ring.com/t5/Ring-Device-Tips-and-How-To-s/Feature-Update-Customizable-Motion-Zones-for-Battery-Devices/ba-p/62829) for more information on these features. If your Ring device is a VIdeo Doorbell, whenever a Video Doorbell mounting scenario is facing a street, we like to recommend using a [Wedge kit](https://ring.com/collections/accessories/products/wedge-kit-for-video-doorbell) to angle the view slightly downwards to avoid vehicles in the street. I hope this helps! :)
