It’s dark outside, porch light is on, why is my ring camera blacked out?

troubleshooting

I just purchased my Ring today. I am still new at this! So, it’s dark outside, my porch light is on, but when I go to live my screen is fuzzy and blacked out. Nothing is covering the camera. What’s the problem?

Hi there, @Dementd! Even with a low light condition or dark environment, your Ring Camera should be adjusting to night vision, or at least be using the ambient lighting to provide a view of the area. If the video is blacked out completely or fuzzy, this might be an indication of wifi interference. Check out our [Community post](https://community.ring.com/t/live-view-not-activating-and-connecting-troubleshooting-tips/249) for a guide on troubleshooting live view, which contains steps related to improving wifi signal. If this concern persists, feel free to share a video example for more suggestions. :)

I have a similar issue. It’s not wifi. I even had ring replace my camera and the issue persists. At 8:44pm the sky is dark blue and the porch is brightly lit up. 8:53pm (9 minutes later) the feed is almost black but the porch light is still on and stays on all night, so why is the feed so dark? this happens on a nightly basis. I’ve seen the video feed look phenomenal around 11pm when its pitch black out (in other words i’ve seen it look just like 844pm screenshot), and yet every night, arbitrarily at some random time, the video feed seems to turn dark around midnight or 1am when the sky hasnt gotten any darker.

Hi @rachelcenter. A large portion of your Doorbell’s view is being blocked by the wall on the side. At night, this causes the lights from the night vision to be reflected directly off that wall back into your Doorbell’s camera. I’d recommend looking into a Corner Kit to angle the Doorbell’s view away from that wall to help alleviate this issue.
