Solar: direct sun vs indirect light

Can the solar step lights recharge with just exposure to daylight vs direct sun exposure? I want to use them in a location (covered terrace) where they would get a lot of exposure to daylight but never directly exposed to sunlight. How long would they last on at night?

Glad you asked, @sfe-lights! You will find great use in our [Smart Lighting placement guide](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041776691-Placing-Your-Solar-Smart-Lights-for-Optimum-Performance), as it contains great tips for installing all of your lights. Direct sunlight is indeed important for your Solar Smart Lights to recharge as intended. For lighting at night and light duration, this will be depending on your light settings in the Ring app, battery level, and outside temperatures at night, but your Smart Lighting battery should certainly last the night and more. :)
