If I witnessed a crime on my Ring doorbell footage would I be able to use this footage to report to the police? Is it likely I could be prosecuted if my doorbell camera overlooks a public area of other peoples houses? That is the street, driveway etc. Not fenced back garden or inside the house.

Hi @user_3c8415. Rules and regulations regarding home security can vary widely. We always recommend contacting your local law enforcement with any questions regarding what the laws in your area are.

Good question. Privacy requires you to aim your camera away from public areas or neighbour's properties in the UK. But, whenever I see a news article on a crime, the authorities always ask for "any doorbell footage". I seem to recall a recent news article about a chase between the police and criminals caught on a doorbell actually played live on TV news. Definitely mixed messages there. So I decided to research, and found this. It explains it quite well. https://www.belvoir.co.uk/articles/how-to-stay-on-the-right-side-of-privacy-laws-with-your-doorbell-camera/#:~:text=Having%20a%20video%20doorbell%20is,area%20outside%20your%20property's%20boundaries.
