Notifications not showing recorded Event

When I receive a notification on my phone (iPhone) for motion activity. When I click on the notification to see the recorded event, it instead takes me to the live view. I then have to close the live view and manually select the event from the timeline. Is this how it’s supposed to work? I would have thought clicking on the notification would take you to the recording of the event that you were notified about?
