Has anyone had their device coating peeling?
wireless-security-cameras

We have had a device since march and the bronze effect coating has now started bubbling and peeling showing the white plastic underneath. I went onto live chat and was told they can't do anything but offer a discount on a new device. They said that no matter how long I had had the device wether it be a day or a year, the warranty is void because it is classed as physical damage. We have had it up by our front door for 9 months and they insist that because it is extreme weather that had caused the peeling that it is no fault of theirs or their device and there for can't replace the item. I argued that surely if you had a device for 1 day and it started bubbling and peeling that is not a device built for outdoor use,but again they replied with,we don't measure by time,it's just not covered even if it happens after 1 day. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I am interested so I can add this in when I send my official complaint. I definitely don't want a discount to buy another when the device is obviously not built for its intended purpose and the lack of support is terrible.

More rip-off Ring I'm afraid. The only thing you could try is a "not fit for purpose" argument as the bronze effect model is prone to bubbling and peeling. There are a LOT of complaints about this on here and the reviews on Amazon. They quote this "physical damage" thing as if they give in to you, they would have to give in to everyone with this device. I have a bronze bell, it's only a few months old and already showing signs of bubbling. However, with the recent reports on the doorbell being hackable I am ditching my Ring Doorbell in favour of one with an SD card and no subscription.

I've been thinking about this a bit more.  I rather think there is a chance to win this one. The product is designed to be outdoors, therefore the product should last a reasonable time when fitted outdoors.  If you bought a front door, and it's finish failed within a year or two there would be recourse with the manufacturer as it would be not unreasonable to expect the item to last "a reasonable time" and the would include the aesthetics. Perhaps in a few more months I will attempt to get Ring to replace the product under the constant guarantee I took out when I subscribed. If they refuse, I will refer it to the Small Claims Court and will publish the result here. Unless someone wants to give it a go now?

I have just had the same conversation with their customer service team. They told me that the doorbell is only water resistant and that rain has physically damaged the product. This is the third Ring doorbell that I have had and they have all failed in the same manner. I still can't believe that they said that rain physically damaged my doorbell!! With customer service like that I am off to buy a Google Nest and will cancel my Ring contract. The doorbell is clearly not fit for purpose if it want withstand rain for 8 months! Very poor customer service.....

To update, I have just received  an email, informing me as a gesture of goodwill they are sending a replacement silver doorbell. I have not been in contact since last speaking to customer service,so this has confused me. It does say the old one will go out of service 7 days after new one is received.  Kind of taking the mick that they call it a gesture of goodwill, as its their product that is clearly not fit for purpose and they themselves have admitted this with sending the silver stating this is better suited to avoid the problem re-occurring. I won't be buying a ring doorbell again in the future , just for the complete lack of customer service alone,to then find out months later, that they are actually going to send a replacement after all.  Watch this space to see what happens next,if it turns up and if I have any faults with the new one.

I made exactly the same complaint to ring 3 days ago and was told the same thing. I used the argument that it is not fit for purpose for use outdoors but they would not budge. I received an email this morning from ‘executive support’ based in the USA asking for best time to contact me to discuss. I have not yet replied
