Ring doorbell stopped working.
Bought our ring doorbell last September, had it installed by a qualified electrician and have never been completely satisified with it. It seems to be very sporadic. Sometimes we get someone ring the doorbell and it doesn't even register there was a ring. Or someone will approach the door and the motion sensor decides not to work. But they werent massiv issues. This week was a different story. It rang once. We got the first 'ding' but no 'dong'. I then oticed a really loud buzzing. Went to check and the door chime is making a loud buzzing noise. It has never done that before. I switched it off at the mainsboard ad heard the 'dong' ring. No idea what is happening but we had to remove the doorbell as it was effectively useless. Unresponsive except to do half a chime when powered on and the other half when powered off at the mains. It worked fine(ish) for almost a year. Our electrician checked that the chime was compatible. It is. He checked the transformer, informed us it wasn't suitable and so he installed one that was. I have wired the old doorbell back in and no problems. I have seen others saying that theirs sudenly stopped working. I am wondering if it is worth going to another brand as this seems to be a running theme for Ring.

Hi @DNDDAD. There are a few things to consider when addressing this situation. Those things are power, compatibility of chime kit, use of Pro Power Kit (Ring Pro) and chime kit selection in the Ring App. For power requirements, we recommend a transformer that can produce 16VAC and 10VA, such as this transformer [here](https://shop.ring.com/products/hardwired-transformer?variant=5433572556831&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=7715931981&utm_term=8EAGS7-0EN0&utm_content=84340393634&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3Iiiz6qt6wIVRT2tBh0xnQ1bEAQYAyABEgLftfD_BwE&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3Iiiz6qt6wIVRT2tBh0xnQ1bEAQYAyABEgLftfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). We also have a list of compatible chime kits that can be found [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003008663-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2-Chime-Kit-Compatibility-List). If using the Ring Pro, the Pro Power Kit does need to be installed correctly in order to ensure proper function. A diagram of this installation can be found [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022454432-Wiring-Diagrams-for-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-Setup). Lastly, selecting either mechanical, digital or none for chime kit in the Ring App, will make sure that you Doorbell is getting the correct voltage to power the circuit. That information can be changed by following these steps [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/212207763-Disabling-Your-In-Home-Doorbell-Chime-on-a-Ring-Pro). Once all of those pieces are in order, your Doorbell should give you the "ding-dong" that you'd expect it to have. Getting just a "ding" followed by a buzz, generally means one of those items mentioned above is amiss. This can also cause the Doorbell to under perform and miss motions, etc. If you'd like to have one of our experts look over this, gather some pictures or your Doorbell transformer, Chime Kit, and wiring on the back of your Doorbell and call in to our support team so they can look this over for you. Please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406). We’re taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19, so this has resulted in longer than normal wait times.
