Missing Ring alerts sometimes
Hello All, I am issue with my Ring Doorbell, as sometimes it fails to notify me that there is someone at the door. This only happens occassionally, but I have missed impotant deliveries and visitors. I have about 5 shallow steps that lead up to the front door. I have disabled the motion dectors, so that the camera does not in lookin for any motion, and hence will not be recording. Speaking to the technical team, they said it is because the bell is busy recording a motion and will not register any other event until 30 seconds. This sort of sounds ok ... but not sure why it is occasionally missing the event of the button being pressed. I am a little confused as this is a doorbell and I would assume the the pressing of the button would take priority over any other motion detection. It is still happening, so unless I can find a resolution, I will have to get rid of the doorbell, as it is clearly not functioning as a doorbell.

Hi @Tom\_Ring, I have adjusted these setttings to be more effective. Frequecy is set to Standard, as it is relatively low footfall, and the front door is set quiet far back from the pavement/sidewalk. Switich off the motion detection zone in front & one side, to minimise the alerts. The fundemental issue to me appears to be that pressing the doorbell does not take priority over any other recording that may be taking place on the device, which in my opinion is wrong.

F@Tom\_Ring are you confirming that if the device is recording due to a motion event then there won't be a ring alert in the app/on the chime when someone presses the button? What if you have motion notifications off (as many will have on their chime - I doubt we want the doorbell ringing when a cat walks past a 3am)?

VI can confirm that the technical support people have said that if the device is recording due to a motion event then there won't be a ring alert in the app/on the chime when someone presses the button. This is what is causing my issue at present. Even if you swicth off all motion dectition there is a default of distance, 5 feet (from memory) that will trigger the camera to potentially start the recording.

Hi @Viren. The 2 things I would adjust to get optimum performance from your Doorbell would be the Motion Frequency and the Motion Settings. [Motion Frequency](https://community.ring.com/t5/Ring-Device-Tips-and-How-To-s/How-to-Set-Your-Motion-Frequency/ba-p/22918) will determine the dwell time in between the recordings. [Motion Settings](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022462472-Utilizing-Motion-Detection-with-your-Ring-Battery-Devices) will affect the sensitivity. I hope this helps!
