If your ring doorbell is draining its battery... check how often it is triggering!

Hi, My Ring Doorbell 2nd generation recently started draining its battery every few weeks. I called customer support and after running some diagnostics they told me that my battery was probably getting old, that the battery wasn't replaceable and that I should consider replacing my ring. Not liking to replace a device just becauset the battery is old, I replaced my ring's battery with a third party battery using instructions on the internet. That didn't help... glad I didn't replace my ring! I noticed that I had two extra wires going to my ring so I used them to run USB power to my ring, and was satisfiend that the problem would be fixed. The very next day, I went back in my doorbell's history to find the arrival time of a package and noticed that my ring was running near continuously because of a linked device we use to monitor our cats inside the house. That was unintentional, but completely explains why my camera was draining its battery: it was running continuously for hours on end. I removed the linking between the devices, and I expect that the problem is now resolved. I have unplugged my brand new USB power supply to confirm that. So if your Ring is draining its battery, before replacing it or doing other things, check how often it is triggering! You may discover that it is just misconfigured. I feel that this is something the customer support person should have noticed. It would be great if they could add this to this checklist for devices that are draining their battery fast. Had they looked they could have told me right away what the problem was and saved me a bunch of useless trouble. All the best! Blaise
