Ring Modes removed from Basic Plan

Just wanted to voice my opinion that Amazon/Ring’s decision to remove the long-standing Ring Modes feature (Disarmed, Away, and Home Modes) from the Ring Protect Basic plan is unacceptable. I will never purchase another Ring product or subscription again because of this decision, and here’s why: After exploring options in the app myself, researching, and finally getting confirmation from Ring Support itself, there is no longer any way for Ring Protect Basic subscribers to prevent the cameras from recording. Even if Motion Schedules or Alerts are configured, both Ring Support articles and Support Agents have confirmed that the camera is always recording, unless you purchase the Ring Protect Pro plan for double the price. This is completely unacceptable, as I can no longer prevent the camera from recording inside when I am home. This is a completely unnecessary complication fueled by nothing other than greed, and I will never support Ring again because of this.  Curious to hear others’ thoughts! I’ve already seen several other posts voicing similar frustrations with this decision.

This is absolutely a smack in the face to existing subscribers who have already paid for and expect a particular service! I am beside myself. I had to call to figure out why I all of a sudden no longer have modes like “Home,” “Away,” and “Disarm.” Now I’m told I have to toss away more money for features I’ve had for the last 2-3 years. Unless I am mistaken, and someone from the Ring Team replies and tells me otherwise, I’ll get a refund and throw this camera in the garbage. If this is how Ring treats loyal customers, then the company is garbage, too. I cannot articulate how disappointed I am. There is no way that not supporting these functions can be saving money. It’s child’s play technology. Again, Ring, you need to reverse course, or we’re done, and everyone I communicate with will also know that Ring likes to throw their customers under the bus. I pray I’m wrong about this. How could anyone call this an “update”? This is completely messed up. Good luck, everyone. If it’s not reversed, I say we mass exodus this platform. Ugh, I’m disgusted.

This is not right!!!! I've had access to being able to change the modes from home to away. Etc now suddenly your taking away a feature I've been paying for and trying to make me pay double to get it back? This is so wrong, how can you treat your loyal customers this way??? We need to look at other cameras now if Ring is going to start treating their customers like Xfinity does. Your both losing alot of customers over this. Watch and see.

I was wondering why my modes disappeared. This is unacceptable to me. I will be looking into another provider.

Agree unacceptable...especially removing the feature during the active term of paid Basic Plan subcription.

Ring removed the mode from the basic plan. Enough is enough! Unless you pay $60 more you can no longer disable your doorbell. Without that ability you get constant alerts whey you are working by the doorbell or if it is windy and blowing leaves. My present payment is up in December. I have removed my credit card on file. I will be trashing the doorbell and installing a Lorex doorbell. I will not have to pay for their services as it stores motion on its own storage device. GOOD BY RING! I just spent 20 minutes with a Ring support supervisor expressing my frustration and disappointment with the modes features being removed from the basic plan. This was an important feature unilaterally remove by Ring.  In addition, I paid for a 1 yr basic subscription which included this feature.  Now it’s no longer part of the basic plan.  Corporate “bait and switch.”  Supervisor was understanding, but unwilling to push my call to the corporate level.   Removing that feature is nonsense!   As you said, it is a popular feature that most everyone uses. Just another example of corporate greed. SMH I hope many other users loudly complain about the removal of this feature. If you’re reading this, please call and complain to a supervisor. Maybe we can get the feature restored until our annual subscription expires.  If this doesn’t happen, they will lose me as a customer, since moving up to the next plan makes no financial sense to me. I only own 1 doorbell I AM CONTACTING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU to register a complaint. I urged all other customers to follow suite.
