Signal to Outdoor Cameras
wireless-security-cameras

I have a Ring Doorbell and four cameras outside of my property to provide security throughout. My problem is that the signal to all of my outdoor cameras is very weak. My router is central in my house, and I have excellent Wi-Fi, around 600 - 700 Mbps.Does anyone have any suggestions on improving the signal to each of my four outdoor cameras?

Hi @user_ee6c7a. How far are the Ring Cameras from the router? We typically don't recommend for them to be more than about 25 feet apart, as the signal starts to deteriorate at that point. Additionally, what is the RSSI listed as on the Device Health page for each camera?

Getting a reliable signal outdoors usually requires a link to an outdoor Access Point of some description. Routers are generally okay for indoor use, but try to get that signal outdoors and you will struggle due to the thickness of walls, insulation and so-on.Ring don't tell you this! There are no easy solutions. You either need to run an Ethernet cable outside from your existing Router and connect to an Outdoor Access Point like a TP-Link N300. Or you can go the way of a Mesh system like Deco.... they have an Outdoor Deco Node, the X50-Outdoor. Or you could try a Range Extender plugged in to a socket close to the camera but still indoors, but it's a risk and it might not work.I have several outdoor cameras and needed to improve my wifi both indoors and outdoors so I ended up with a set of three TP-Link Deco X50 and one X50-Outdoor nodes. I now have a reliable signal from all my outdoor and indoor cameras.
