Angry about Mandatory Two-Step Verification Process
I am pissed off about the fact that you have made two-step verification mandatory. This is a bulky awkward additional step that is slow and onerous. It already takes too long for the camera to come online, and I have been able to determine that this is NOT a router/connection speed issue. This is NOT what I bought. You should make this an option, not mandated; or you should refund me the cost of the two doorbells and the cosmetic work done on the mounting location.

I agree that users should be outraged at this latest anti-consumer move from Ring. Has anyone heard/read anything as to why Ring is supposedly doing this? Has there been some type of security breach? It is obviously totally unacceptable for Ring to attempt to force users to choose between two EXTREMELY UNDESIRABLE 2FA methods in order to be allowed to continue to use hardware (and services) they already paid for. Like others, I would have never purchased Ring hardware if I knew Ring would pull an unethical stunt like this. As a provider of security hardware/software/services, Ring should be focused on raising the privacy/security of users, rather than lowering it. As such, Ring should offer a variety of MFA methods. Ring should also educate users on ALL of the pros/cons of each MFA method, so as to allow each user to make an informed choice as to which is best for them. (Note: Just because a particular method is very desirable for Ring and/or its parent company doesn't mean it's desirable for you, as a user.) Sadly, this situation feels very much like an strong-armed extortion attempt by Ring, due to corporate greed. (I can't help but notice, for example, that it seems like Ring and its parent company are always attempting to trick users into providing a mobile phone number – which obviously places users at continuing risk in any number of ways. In this case, Ring is taking it a step further and attempting to FORCE users to do what it wants, instead of merely tricking them – which is not only seriously unethical, but mean-spirited.)

My wife is totally locked out of her account. * She has got a new phone. * We moved to a new house. * We have no access to the old device. * We have no utility bill at the old address (we were living with family). There is no way to do the verification on a new device without having access to the old doorbell or by providing a utility bill with the old address showing. We're setting up a Ring system at the new house, and my wife can't even log in to her account. I guess she'll just have to create a new account with a new email address. This sucks because she doesn't want to create a new email address just because of Ring's incompetence.

MThis is BS. Out of nowhere, at 3am this morning, when letting my dog out so she could go to the bathroom, I get a notice to set up two-factor verification. My dog's desperate, it's dark, I'm not awake, and yet I have to figure out this two-factor thing lest I wake up my entire family. I never, to my knowledge, received a notice that this was coming, so imagine my anger at having to figure this out at 3am. And then, when I logged into my account on my computer later, I have to go through the process again. And each time when I log in. Insane. Anyone know of any other systems that don't force this stupid requirement that are worth looking into? Knowing Amazon is now the owner of Ring (they weren't when I originally purchased my system), this stupidness doesn't surprise me.

I am in agreement with everyone here this should be an option not mandatory. I don't like it at all and don't want to be forced to use it.

Not only do they force it, but you can't get a verification code by email. Instead you get an email saying codes won't be sent, to log in via a trusted device, which I cannot have with me when I'm in the office, so totally negates me being able to check on my home cameras. Time to shop for an alternative. They've made it impossible for my ring security to be accessed at work.
