Ring doorbell not disconnected by previous owner

I recently bought a house that came with a Ring Doorbell. All is good, but the previous owners moved to another state and did not release ownership of the device. I called Ring customer service last month and was told that the ownership will release after 2 months of inactivity. Called them today since it is still registered to them and was told that the ownership cannot be changed at all. Is there a normal resolution or should I go Office Space on the doorbell and go back to Nest?
