How can I force my ring doorbell 4 to use 5GHz without having two SSIDs?
I need to force my second ring doorbell to use 5GHz.* I studied the hits at https://community.ring.com/search?q=5ghz and the only idea I saw to force things was by destroying my existing router setup, and having two different SSIDs. Needless to say it would be a headache since I have other things using the network and I would not only need to reprogram but they would no longer be able to dynamically switch. Idea #1: What about re-installing the 2nd ring, while my my phone is forced to to use 5GHz wifi, so when it gets the SSID it would know it is supposed to use 5GHz? Idea #2: Go to router, disable 2.4 GHz. Re-setup 2nd ring. Since 2.4 is gone it will be forced to use 5 GHz? Will either idea work? Does anyone know? *The problem started when we got a second ring. If there is motion (and we need to activate both cameras at once), the 2.4 GHz spectrum gets saturated, and neither ring doorbell works well. It seems the problem is that the ring video doorbell 4 cannot intelligently know when a spectrum is filled up, so it fails to switch to 5GHz. During setup, obviously the 2.4 GHz spectrum seems fine, so perhaps it selects it then and sticks to it.

For what it is worth. Ring and Amazon has a problem they need to resolve. I have a Fire HD10 that I could not get to run on 5 Ghz. I found out that it will not run on 5 Ghz on the upper channels and had to set my router 5 Ghz to Channel 48. Don't know why Ring/Amazon can't have their dual band devices automatically use the 5Ghz if available and on all channels. I also just today replaced my old Ring (dead battery) with a doorbell 4 thinking I could use the 5Ghz but there is no where in their app to tell you which band you are on. At least my Fire showed me the band it was connected to. I also read that the doorbell 4 will run on 5Ghz, channel 48 and above but then I was also told by a Ring rep that since I was using the Chime Pro which operates only on the 2.4 Ghz band that my doorbell 4 would only work on the 2.4 Ghz do to the limitation of the Chime Pro. Ring/Amazon needs to get their stuff together or at least give us the full specs of their products and these products before we purchase them. It's misleading to tell us it will run on 5Ghz and not tell us that it will only run on certain channels and will not operate on 5Ghz if connected to some of their other products. It would seem that maybe a software upgrade might solve some of the problems. I have not problem connecting to 5Ghz with other products as I can set it in the setup and not worry about the Channel or the product will default to 5Ghz if available. Getting frustrated with Ring.
