Stick up cam and battery problems

I have a snap camera. It stopped working. The battery wasn't holding a charge as I could recharge it to full, put it back and have the cam solid blue light for a couple of seconds and then stop. I went to recharge it and it still took over an hour to recharge, despite only being hookec back up to the cam for a few minutes. I ordered new batteries. However even with the new batteries, the same thing was happening. Charge, put in the new battery, get a couple of seconds of the blue light and then nothing. The battery needed recharging despite only been off the charger and in the device for very short periods of time. When I charged it back up and just let it set, the battery did nto need to be recharged when I checked after an hour and after two.. Any suggestions as to problem and possible cure>
