Rechargeable batteries not charging - just green light when plugged into charging cable

Hello, as the title suggests - I have a battery from my Spotlight cameras that has been fine for the past year. I keep a spare to charge up when one of the others is needing recharging. Now I plug in and the orange and green light come on together for a split second and then just the green light stays on. I leave for over 1 day and then try to use the battery and it will not work in the camera. No red light inside the battery compartment to indicate battery is in and working and it seems to have no charge. Do the batteries not last that long in terms of being able to be recharged ? Thanks.
