Smart lighting transformer humming
I have just added a third smart lighting transformer - it is functioning normally except that it has an audible hum and if you touch it you can feel the vibration. The other two do not do this. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my transformer, and whether I should be concerned. I am well below the maximum wattage. All three transformers have LED lighting by others, but this one includes a strip light. An internet search indicated there was some possibility that it would be inductive buzzing caused by the LED drivers. Unless my new transformer is a lemon, this is the only thing I can think of as a possible reason. All three transformers are plugged into the same exterior outlet, but only the one has this issue, and there was no change in performance to the others when I added this one. I suspect this is not dangerous, but wondering if it might diminish the lifespan of the transformer. Any input would be appreciated!

Hi @user_6a1112. I checked with my team on this and confirmed it is not a safety concern. Your internet search actually provided the correct answer here - the humming sound is caused by inductive buzzing, which happens when LED drivers interact with the transformer. The Ring Smart Lighting transformer includes multiple safety protections, including over-temperature, overload, and over-voltage protection. It's also UL approved with fail-safe operations built in. Since the humming is only present in the one transformer with the LED strip light, and the other transformers are working normally, this further confirms that it's just a normal interaction between the LED drivers and the transformer. I hope this information helps ease your concerns! 😊
