Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus with existing battery doorbell
Hi, Can anyone tell me whether I can use my Ring Video Doorbell 3+ with an existing Battery-powered doorbell chime? It looks like many people have tried but not posted a clear final answer. I just need the switch to "make" (ie complete) the circuit so that current can flow. I read somewhere that this does work, but no clear answer about whether the Ring will try to charge from the battery supply, or whether it would be damaged by connecting to a DC supply when it otherwise would try to charge from an AC supply. Hi, thanks for the suggestion. However, its a battery-powered mechanical chime, powered by 4 x 1.5v "C" cells, so 6v DC (not AC). I put a continuity tester across the ring doorbell terminals and pressed the doorbell button, and there was no tone from the continuity tester, so I don't think it will work. To be fair, there is a sticker on the back of the doorbell that warns against connecting to a DC supply, so I decided it wasn't going to work and ditched the old mechanical chime. It seems very strange to me that this doesn't work, but I have 2 "Ring Chime"s and they're surprisingly loud (especially for their size) so I don't really need the mechanical one after all. Thanks for your help :-)

Good question, @GMac. Your Video Doorbell certainly has the potential to work with your existing chime kit, as long as it is rated for the required 8v to 24v of AC power. Once connected to the wires, visit your Video Doorbell page in the Ring app. From your Video Doorbell's Device Settings there will be an option for in home chime type. Ensure to select digital, as this chime type sounds to be digital.
