Hardwired battery drain Ring 3

Had happily used a Ring Doorbell 2 for two years till it decided to give up completely. Ring replaced it with a doorbell 3. For two years with the “2” no issues with the battery, now I’m using a “3” I’ve had the battery drain down to 10% despite being hardwired. Short of swapping batteries around, any suggestions on stopping the drain and allowing the battery to retain relatively full charge like I used to enjoy with the doorbell 2?

Hi @Spearmint. There could be a few different reasons why the battery is draining more quickly than usual. First, having your Doorbell hardwired will provide it with a trickle charge that helps to keep the battery topped off. It's not going to charge it as quickly as charging the battery via a power outlet does, but it will provide a small charge daily. If your Doorbell is seeing a lot of motions, dings, or Live Views, this could cause the battery to drain more quickly than it can be charged via the doorbell wires. You can look at adjusting the [Motion Frequency](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003477106-Understanding-and-Optimizing-Motion-Detection-with-Motion-Frequency) or the [Motion Zones](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/210243483-Utilizing-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Devices) to help cut down on events that are being recorded if needed. It's also important to keep in mind that the cold weather can affect your Ring device's battery, which you can read more about in our Help Center Article [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005939463-Cold-Weather-and-Battery-Powered-Ring-Doorbells). Hi Yeah ive had my 2 ring doorbells hard wired for 6 months now and their still reading 80 & 90 % never had to take out and charge in house best thing I did. They are ring doorbells 1& 2 would recommend hardwired everytime.

I am having the same thing happen since my Ring Doorbell 2 died (for the 4th time), so after 3 previous warranty replacements with Doorbell 2 devices, I convinced Ring to give me a Doorbell 3. I am honestly regretting that because I am having to charge my batteries constantly to replace them almost every 2 weeks despite the fact that the doorbell is hardwired. I actually paid like $700 to an electrician to have them run the wiring to the doorbell which used to keep my Doorbell 2 fully charged almost all the time and now it seems that was a huge waste of $700 because the hardwiring cannot seem to charge the Doorbell 3 anyway. My motion zone settings are exactly what they were when I had the Doorbell 2, so I really should not have to modify anything. The experience should have been improved from the Doorbell 2 to the Doorbell 3, not made worse. I am very disappointed in this product.

It's only a trickle charger and does not provide full power. So if you have your settings up too high for example, motion frequency to Frequently instead of Regularly . When I first installed the hard wire, I thought I could set all my setting to maximum, because I thought the doorbell was full powered, but it's not, it's only a trickle charger. You need to tweak your settings so that it doesn't use your battery too fast, or at least goes down very slowly, or if you have the correct settings, the hardwire will keep your Ring charged up. Mine is set to Regular motion and 30 second videos and HDR switched off. I know my signal is a bit weak at RSSI - 66 but I still think it performs better on 5GHz. ![Screenshot_20210326-130238|264x500](upload://ibrQrCIhj7iE1NtOhDnTDxF99AE.jpeg)

So I’m getting a warning about adjusting settings to improve excess battery drain every time I open the app which I gotta say is a pain. Hardwired battery never goes below 90%, is usually around 97%. This just started recently on my 3. Never had the warning on my original Ring. The settings are conservative as they can be and get green “recommended” scores. No snapshot, etc. etc. My motion alerts aren’t what I’d consider excessive either. Maybe ten on an average day. My neighbor’s cats set it off usually which didn’t happen with the original ring either BTW. Cats? Seriously? My sister can pull in the driveway and it doesn’t react at all but cats drive it crazy. My conclusion is that this 3 is simply JUNK. Unreliable is all you can really say about it. Guessing it has to do with the 5G WIFI connection on the 3 using too much battery, RSSI -60 How do I turn off the excess battery drain warning every time I open the app?
