Ring Video Doorbell 2 Installation question about transformers
hardwired-battery-video-doorbell
First off, I'm installing ring over an existing doorbell. I have the button at the front door that rings doorbell on wall in living room. Our home was built five years ago. Still looking in basement for a transformer as that's how I think my doorbell works. How do you know if you are connected directly to a transformer? Watching install video, they speak of using resister if connecting directly to transformer? So, if I don't find transformer can I remove existing doorbell switch at front door, unscrew wires and do a DVM check there using bare wires?

Hi @Niemand. Since you have an existing doorbell that you are installing the Ring Doorbell to, you are not installing it directly to a transformer. If you did not have an existing doorbell and only a transformer, that means you would be installing it directly to a transformer. If you're unable to locate where the transformer is in your home, it may be best to contact a licensed electrician as they can help find it and make sure everything looks good power-wise. I would also suggest verifying that the chime kit in your home, the one on the living room wall, is compatible with the Doorbell 2. You can find a compatibility list in our Help Center [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003008663-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2-Chime-Kit-Compatibility-List). I hope this helps answer your questions.
