Chime Classic - ring tone and volume do not actually set
app-settings
troubleshooting
chime

I have my Ring camera set up, and notifications are working. So then I installed our Chime device (original version, not Pro); it is installed, and ran its updates and such. Then I went in with the app to change the tone and volume... I set them as desired (using the Train Whistle tone), and when I press "Test new tone", it plays the one that I selected... but when we actually get an event, it plays its default tone - at FULL volume!! Is there some way to actually get the Chime to use the tone/volume that I've programmed into it?? I also tried unplugging/replugging the Chime after setting, but it made no difference...

Hi @derelict. Make sure you have the latest version of the Ring app, then try resetting the Chime by holding down the reset button on the side for 20 seconds. After that, set the Chime back up in the Ring app using the steps under Set Up a Device. Adjust the Chime tone and volume to your preference and then test it out by triggering an event on your Doorbell or Camera.

Well, I did this, and now I'm back to the original problem that I had yesterday, when I first tried to set up this device: When I set my desired ring tone, then select Save and Continue, I get: "Sorry, there was a problem saving your Chime tone. Please try again." which gets repeated every time I try again. The chime is currently plugged in about 1.5 feet from our router. So is there a solution for *this* problem?

Okay, I did all that... I then gave it plenty of time to install updates after the reset, which it said it needed to do... then I changed the Chime Tone from default to Train Whistle. The Ring app says that it is using Train Whistle, and when I run the test button, it indeed plays Train Whistle... but when we trigger an event, we just get the default sound (which sound like a series of bells). I also had my wife log into it using her Android tablet and the Ring app; it *also* says the Chime is using Train Whistle... but triggering the event still gives us the default sound, not what we requested...

@derelict One more thing to confirm, are you selecting the Train Whistle tone for both Rings and Motions? If you are, and it's still playing the incorrect sound, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406) so they can take a closer look to see what is causing this. Continuing the discussion from [Chime Classic - ring tone and volume do not actually set](https://community.ring.com/t/chime-classic-ring-tone-and-volume-do-not-actually-set/156397/4): I just set my Chime up today , and mine is doing the same thing . I only want the chime for the doorbell and not motion . So I set the motion to no sound , but when I test it , it works . But when I close the app and check again , it’s back to default.

Hi @user48345. Check the app store on your phone to ensure you have the latest version of the Ring app. Some of the main troubleshooting steps mentioned in this thread include resetting your Chime and performing a new setup in the Ring app. Make sure when you reset your Chime, you're holding down the reset button for at least 15 seconds. Then walk through a new setup, and navigate to Audio Settings > Chime Alerts to toggle off motion alerts on your Chime. Tap the Save button to ensure this setting is saved. If this issue persists, and your settings do not seem to save despite trying the above, you can follow up with our support team at one of the numbers available [here](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/213608406#callus) for more in-depth troubleshooting assistance.
