troubleshooting

I’d like to keep my iPad show my ring video doorbell. But after 10 minutes or so it drops live view and requires me to reconnect to live view, , Wi-Fi Wi-Fi is working fine, it’s like there’s a settings that after certain amount of time live you goes away is there a way to change that so I can use an old iPad as a real time always on monitor for my ring cameras. I am in away mode

Hello @Howboys , The "Good News" is that there is nothing wrong with your iPad or Ring Video Doorbell, when _"after 10 minutes or so it drops live view and requires me to reconnect to live view."_ And then you said, _"it’s like there’s a settings that after certain amount of time live you goes away"_ and you are absolutely right! The "Bad News" is there is a setting of 10 minutes maximum and you have no control over it. As per intentional design, when your Ring camera records/displays (from either a triggered motion, or if you use "Live View", your camera essentially makes a "Video Phone-call" connection to the Ring "Cloud" in a manner that is similar to making a "Voice over Internet Protocol" (VoIP) phone call. That 'call connection' is currently setup to only last 10 minutes. Live View _will_ automatically turn off (hang up the Cloud connection) after 10 minutes. You can activate the "Live View" again, for your camera to make another Ring "Cloud" connection, but again that will time-out after 10 minutes. (see the "Note" at the bottom of this link): [https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208144516-Using-Live-View](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/208144516-Using-Live-View) So unfortunately, you can not maintain a streaming display for longer. The Ring Video devices were not designed to maintain a 24/7 streaming video, since Ring started with a battery-operated Video Doorbell (that can 'trickle-charge' using the doorbell's house wires). And then Ring continued to expand into security cameras, Alarm system, and I even heard that Ring Automobile Dash-Cams are right around the corner! Since the Video Doorbell is running off the battery (the Ring Video Doorbell Pro is the exception), the 'trickle-charging' would not be able to keep up with the power drain, and eventually the battery will go dead (if the camera tried to maintain a much longer "Live View" or very long recording lengths). So somewhere during the Doorbell development, 10 minutes was chosen as a 'trade-off' between the option of maintaining "Live View" and the battery life capabilities. Some people asked if they have several cameras, could there be streaming 24/7 on all their cameras at the same time. And the answer is also currently 'No'. You already know it is limited to 10 minutes. But also the Ring App can basically make only ONE call/connection at a time to the Ring server. So it can not display multiple "Live View" of multiple cameras at the same time for the side-by-side viewing. Essentially you have to 'hang up' on one camera connection, and then make another 'call' to the server for a "Live View" on another camera. _"Is there a way to change that so I can use an old iPad as a real time always on monitor for my ring cameras?"_ The answer is 'maybe one-day soon' Ring will be able to provide this capability, especially that now several Ring Video devices can be externally powered and battery-life is not an issue (for example, the Ring Indoor Cam, Video Doorbell Pro, Stick Up cam Plug-In, etc.). You aren't alone, wanting longer time than just 10 minutes, or the 24/7 streaming option. And some people want 24/7 streaming on multiple cameras simultaneously. Although there are several _regular_ forum posts about this, the **Feature Request Board ** forum is where Ring Team look to see what people might want. And the more "Thumbs Up" Kudo votes they see there will better get their attention. You should add your Kudo vote, if you like the requesting author's idea, to help get the attention of the Ring Teams on the links below (and I've probably missed a few others): Submitted by [TimsonT](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/39693) : [https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Adding-A-Live-View-For-Multiple-Cameras-on-the-W...](https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Adding-A-Live-View-For-Multiple-Cameras-on-the-Windows-App/idi-p/23588) Submitted by [SmartCarrion](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/40679) : [https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Extend-the-length-of-Live-View/idi-p/24124](https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Extend-the-length-of-Live-View/idi-p/24124) Submitted by [Chriss1735](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/63981) : [https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Live-view-for-Multiple-cameras-on-app-and-pc/idi...](https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/Live-view-for-Multiple-cameras-on-app-and-pc/idi-p/38605) Submitted by [smp75](https://community.ring.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/44650) : [https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/View-Multiple-Live-Cameras-Dashboard/idi-p/26343](https://community.ring.com/t5/Feature-Request-Board/View-Multiple-Live-Cameras-Dashboard/idi-p/26343) Sorry for the disappointing information. But I hope this information is useful for understanding what is going on with your iPad and Doorbell. :)
