Can the feature that disables the live view on a camera or doorbell when the battery is low be removed? I appreciate why that feature may be in place but it seems rather pointless when a warning that the battery is low is more than sufficient. If the battery is low surely it should still be the users choice whether to use live view or not. The primary reason to have a camera is to capture motion, but the ability to use live view to check all is ok when away from home is also very important. To not be able to do this just because the battery is low means key functionality is lost and forces me to change the battery long before I really need to.

Absolutely. I’m leaving ring specifically because of this feature. If I want to burn the last minute of battery on a live feed that I need to see that’s my choice. What a horrible design to not even have a force mode feature. Horrible design.

So I found a hack. The low battery deactivates the Live view. Set your Motion Alerts to trigger as best you can, and set your Snap Capture ideally as frequently as possible. Not sure which one did the trick, but once motion is detected and you click on the notification, it will fully show the Live View.

The feature you're referring to, which disables live view on a camera or doorbell when the battery is low, is typically designed to preserve battery life and ensure that the device continues to function for essential functions, such as recording motion events. However, I understand your concern about losing access to live view, which can be critical for checking on things remotely. Unfortunately, most cameras and doorbells with this feature do not offer an option to disable it, as it is a built-in safeguard. Here’s why: Battery Conservation: When the battery is low, the device's priority shifts to ensuring that it can still perform its primary functions, like recording motion events and sending alerts. Live view consumes a significant amount of power, so disabling it helps to conserve the remaining battery life. Preventing Complete Shutdown: By limiting certain features, the device is more likely to stay operational for its core functions, rather than running out of power completely. Safety and Usability: If the battery is critically low and live view were still enabled, there’s a risk that the device might shut down completely before you can take action, leaving you without any monitoring capabilities. To address your concern, here Receiptify are a few potential approaches: Regular Battery Maintenance: Keep an eye on battery levels and replace them before they get critically low. Many devices provide notifications well before the battery reaches a critical state, so you can plan ahead. Additional Power Options: Some cameras and doorbells support alternative power sources like hardwiring or solar panels. If this is an option for your device, it could help avoid running into battery-related issues.
