Hello, I’ve got the Ring connected with two Echo Show 8 (2nd gen), once they are out of DND mode, they notify me when someone is at the door - and display the doorbell cam on screen, based on a motion, not pressed button. That’s fine, and the settings via the Alexa app is set that way. However, unsure when & why this has changed, but it displays in the app as Answered Motion (Person), previously (regardless of the Echo mode) it just said „someone was detected at your Front Door” - as that’s the name of the device, and in the app it listed as Person Detected; because Answered Motion (Person) appeared only when I reacted to a notification, and the motion was actually answered! This means also the blue Ring button would light up (in the past); luckily it’s not the case, as that’s not wanted! I don’t wanna passers by be bothered & notified about them being captured. These motions are to call it correctly Unanswered Motion (Person). So just because the Echo (in normal mode) displays a detected person at the Front Door, it says in the Ring App it’s an Answered Motion (Person). If Echo is in the DND mode, it is listed as Person Detected, this was also the case while in normal mode, and apparently changed couple of weeks ago (I noticed)? This hardly can be working as designed, as these motions has not been answered, certainly not just because Echo displays them on screen. So it’s incorrectly flagged/tagged.. Is there a way to fix this, or what’s this about? Kindly assist & advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi @sxlange. Activating the Live View when motion is detected would categorize that event as an Answered Motion. It sounds like you have a Routine set up in the Alexa app to have the Live View displayed on the Echo Show when motion is detected, is that correct?   Functionally, the behavior at the Ring Doorbell itself should still be the same, whether it is listed as an Answered Motion, or just as Person Detected. The only thing that would notify people walking by that they're being recorded is if you had Motion Warning toggled on, or spoke through the Doorbell with the two-way audio.

Hello Caitlyn; nope, there are no routines set for the Ring. There are Alexa app settings for the Ring, but I haven’t changed anything. I actually noticed that either Person Detection or Motion Announcement was turned off .. by itself, I assume after some Echo FW update. Live View is something else .. going by categorization, and it means literally when I manually initiate a life view.. some screenshots attached for better understanding and troubleshooting..; Thanks

@sxlange For clarity, the view from the Doorbell being displayed on the Echo is the Live View. Based on what you're describing, there must have been an update with the Alexa app. Previously, with announcements turned on, the Live View would only display on an Echo device when the Doorbell button was pressed. It would not display a Live View with motion detection, this required a separate Routine to be set up.

That’s incorrect. Previously, while there was a motion or person detected, the Echo has displayed the camera feed (not just an announcement) on the display, with this being listed in Ring app as Person Detected. Now it is being listed Answered Motion (Person). If I turn off the Motion Announcements (in Alexa app) and leave Person Detection Announcements on, it announces that someone is at the door (of the respective device), does not display the camera feed on the Echo display, and will list it as Person Detected in the Ring app. This is somewhat reasonable, but this was not the case before. There needs to be a clear distinguishing between these events. Just because the Echo has displayed the Ring doorbell camera feed on display, it does not mean I have communicated with that person .. that event has not been answered! So either you incorporate another event title, and link in to the respective action.. e. g. Motion (Person), or the Ring app history remains polluted with mislabeled events that doesn’t really help to find what you are looking for ..or filter things easily, including other disadvantages. Live View is also something totally different, that is when you manually initiate the doorbell / camera feed too see what’s happening, that works correctly. Also, please don’t talk about routines, this is totally unrelated to that feature. It is clearly visible from the screenshots, that these are menu options in the settings of the Ring doorbell (camera) of the Alexa app. Thank you.
