Solar panel keeps disconnecting
I have a spotlight cam that I added a solar panel to. It will randomly change from “connected” to telling me to add a solar panel to “extend battery life.” I know it’s not charging all that great so I’m assuming it’s doing it a lot. The directions show to screw the plug on but my plug looks like a regular jack. There’s no way to screw it in. How can I keep it from disconnecting? Or why does it disconnect, then reconnect again? When it’s “connected,” it seems to charge fine, but it disconnects way too often to be effective.

I am having this same issue and I have two spot cams with the identical settings, what keeps charged between 95% and 100% and then this one recently starts at 100% with a fully charged battery and by the end of day two it is at 36%. I checked the app and at one point it says the solar is connected and then next it says it isn’t. I checked the plug and it seems fine. So I don’t think it is a setting issue.

I have the same exact issue. I already know it is not the plug or the solar panel. The plug fits fine. I have another camera that uses the same type of solar panel and swapped them. The other camera has no issue. So the panel and plug are fine. Obviously not the wire from the panel to the plug either. The issue is clearly with the camera unit itself. It is loaded with two batteries. But the issue that everyone is talking about here is exactly the problem I have. I reset the camera as well after the problem happened the first time. I opened the battery door and removed both batteries. Let I sit for a few minutes and then reloaded both batteries, swapping slots. Then it was ok for almost two weeks before the same issue happened. The solar goes from connected to not connected and the batteries get depleted and there is no charging happening, even after a full day of nonstop sunlight. So there must be a manufacturer defect with the camera or the programming. But I doubt they will fix the issue.

I’m having the same issue described. Worked well for 18 months actually, then one morning I got a notification that as of 6:30 AM, charge was below 30%. It also stated that the last time of complete 100% charge was 5:30 AM. So battery drained 70% in 1 hour. After resetting, unplugging and replugging solar panel on multiple occasions, the camera still only intermittently recognizes solar and the battery has been draining. This morning, showed solar wasn’t connected. This afternoon, solar is connected. Nobody has touched the device. While Ring customer service has been nice, they have nonetheless been unhelpful in resolving the issue. I get it, they want to rule out simple issues, but they always are baffled when resetting device and unplugging/replugging device doesn’t fix it.

Hi neighbors! When a Solar Panel is not charging or connecting, the best thing to consider first is battery usage. Check out our [Community post about battery draining ](https://community.ring.com/t/device-tips-battery-draining-quickly/305) for tips and tricks on optimizing battery performance. The best steps for troubleshooting your Solar Panel are as follows: * Clean panel to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. * Check the adapter is securely plugged into the device. * Ensure there is no debris or damage to the adapter or port area. * In most locations, winter means overcast. Please ensure your Solar Panel is receiving several hours of direct sunlight per day. If your solar panel is not operating despite trying the above steps, please reach out to our support team to take a closer look at your account.
