Ring Desktop App Discontinuation

Hey neighbors. We wanted to thank you so much for your continued feedback in regards to the desktop app and Ring.com. We are going to continue to fine-tune the tools and features that our neighbors have come to love about the Ring desktop app to ensure that you can still enjoy the functionality of Ring on your desktop, from Ring.com. We strongly encourage you to use [Ring.com](http://ring.com/) due to the planned deprecation of the desktop apps for both Windows and Mac and them no longer receiving updates. This will provide the best experience to manage your devices while we continue to work on Ring.com. We are exploring how we can support additional web browsers such as Firefox and Safari, as well as browser notifications across all support platforms to ensure you get alerted of what's happening at your location. We are working hard to improve the web experience so that we can support all of our products, features and integrations from your desktop computer, leaving you with more options and control over your devices from Ring.com in comparison to the previous desktop app experience. With this change in mind, we would like to highlight key features that **are currently available** on [Ring.com](http://ring.com/) that are not available via the desktop app: * [Subscription management](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022109431-Changing-your-Payment-Method-Updating-or-Canceling-your-Ring-Protect-Plan) * [Control Center](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038142272-Ring-Control-Center-Information) * [Mode Settings](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036107792-Control-All-your-Ring-Devices-with-Modes) (for Alarm and Cameras) * Alarm and Smart Lighting Event History * Access to all devices * *Desktop app has not supported new Ring devices [after February 2021](https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/204384784-Downloading-and-Updating-the-Ring-App)* Going forward, we want you to know that in the coming months we are **looking to bring the following features** to [Ring.com](http://ring.com/) in the future: * Browser notifications for Chrome, Firefox * *Safari support will come late 2022* * Additional browsers supported for Live View (Firefox, Safari) * Device Health information for your devices We will make sure to keep neighbors updated on the official removal of the desktop app in the future, and appreciate your patience while we work on the best experience for our neighbors. Please feel free to leave any additional comments or feedback in regards to this below, and any features you are looking for in the future, share in our [Feature Request Board here](https://community.ring.com/c/products/24). Thank you, neighbors! **NOTE**: This announcement **only applies to desktop app users** and not mobile app users. The mobile app will not be altered or impacted from this change.

Hey neighbors, a new Live View widget is rolling out for the Ring app on iOS and Android. This will allow you to quickly and easily access the Live View on your Ring Doorbell or Camera. To learn more about this feature and how to set it up, check out [this Community post](https://community.ring.com/t/feature-release-live-view-widget/193016) in the Ring Updates board. :)

What good is that to people who want to use the Desktop app?

Seems like lots of current (about to be former) users on here are complaining about the removal of the desktop app that was SO MUCH BETTER than this website version. While nice that the mobile versions are getting an upgrade, I'm with the others whom don't want to live off my phone. I have a desktop for a reason, and with the web browser version of RING being so much worse than the MAC app - I too will let my subscription go once I can. I'm moving soon so won't need my ring peephole camera - it will be trashed and so will my account

It's simply untrue when Ring says you get notifications on the web-based version of their browser. I followed every single step and it resulted in no notifications. Motion alerts on my iPhone were not shown on the web-based Ring browser. I messaged Ring via Twitter and all I got was canned responses (I believe from a bot). When I pushed the Ring customer service rep during a phone call he admitted that even if I enable notifications on the web-based browser it won't generate motion alerts. I am a paid Ring subscriber and a purchaser of your products. Bring back the desktop app that many of us are asking for here or risk a decline in customer retention. Amazon surely has the funds to provide both a web-based and app-based choice for customers. (A side comment: You can't enable notifications when your browser is in private mode; when I enabled notifications in a non-private mode, Ring flooded my computer with all kinds of unrelated third party cookies. Not cool!)

Same exact problem. Web push notifications don't work I'm discovering after being forced to use ring.com after the MacOS app was killed. And also, when pushed, the tech support folks admitted it doesn't work., Wow. So they have a whole page of web push setup help that they know doesn't work. Wasted hours on this today.

Basic essential functionality for the Ring is to be able to see / talk to someone in real time when they're at the door. Something the desktop app solved perfectly. Ring dot com however - does not. I've been using ring dot com intermittently since you first announced the EOL of the Desktop app. It is still not yet fit for purpose. There has not been one single example of where the website loads in time to see someone before they leave. There is no time to decide if I want to answer the door or not to an unsavoury caller. Every benefit I had from the ring is gone. Ring dot com's sessions / profiles are a joke. I'm sure you'll cite security you don't understand as the reason. But anyone who knows, knows how wrong you are. You don't need to make us do as much of a song and dance to get in. Your 2f is also pathetic. I might as well just use the phone app rather than wait for a text...so stupid. Did that even enter any of your heads? You've stuck the finger up to users who don't carry their phone and sit in front of a Desktop all day long. I've been a ring customer since the first Ring. You've killed the spirit of Ring. I think your Product Team should consider a career in Gardening or something non technical. To take this direction is tone deaf / blind and ignorant. Fools. No doubt it results in a lot of abuse being fired towards the team you push out to take the abuse the Product Team deserves. It must be demoralising to work for you. Especially if you've seen the demise from the once great and promising Ring. Amazon killed ring. I'm out. I look forward to watching the death by a million cuts from afar. RIP Ring.

I opened my Ring app on my Mac this morning only to find a discontinuation of the app notice again. Okay, let's give ring.com a try in my favorite browser (Firefox): ![image|690x434](upload://c2R2diZ7ou9hNblmpIlagVcW8zD.png) I tried again multiple times to no avail. This will be great when my cameras are triggered :man_facepalming: Why not just keep the app? It's the perfect solution! No logging in. No 2FA. Immediate notifications. Easy to use. Always on. Why is Ring adamant about degrading their product and pissing off their customer base? If I need to access details about my account, which I do once in a blue moon, I'll use the browser for that. But for everyday monitoring use, please keep the app, it's one of the best features about your product!

Update: Someone just pulled into my driveway. I have both the desktop app and web app (in Safari) running, but I only got a notification from the app. And yes, I enabled push notifications in the web app: ![image|330x344](upload://pFbxuD1lPvDkkkfKxYXNtVd3Ij0.png) The desktop app is clearly better.

Came here simply to say that disabling the Desktop App is so backwards a move it's insane. This is purely a money thing and not a quality of product thing. Using the browser is laggy and quite often simply does not work. Bad bad move
