Why wouldn’t the chimes announce the alarm when it goes off?

I think it’s crazy that if the alarm is triggered, the chimes don’t alert… I thought I for sure had to be missing something in settings. But it appears there is no option. My alarm system is no good if I’m upstairs sleeping and my base station sounds the alarm downstairs There has to be something I can do here.
