Power for the outdoor siren

If I am going to use the plug in power pack for the outdoor siren do I still need to have the supplied D batteries installed ? And if so how long do they last if the dusk to dawn is on

Unless you can easily access the siren, don't use Dawn-to-Dusk unless the siren is hardwired. Without hardwiring, the quick-release battery only has enough power to keep Dawn-to-Dusk functioning for a week at most. Once the quick release battery power is exhausted, there will be no power to sound the siren in the event of a break-in if you remove the backup D-Cells, its best to leave them in. Dawn-to-Dusk does not work when the siren is only powered by D-Cells, so once the power in the quick release pack is depleted, Dawn-to-Dusk will cease to function.

I also just realised by "plug in power pack" you probably meant a mains power supply rather than the quick releasee battery pack! Still the answer is yes, in fact, moreso. If you get a mains power outage, your siren will not sound if you have a break-in. Think of the D-Cells as a back-up battery, it's precisely what they are. Even without power, they will last up to 2 years. Dawn-to-Dusk does not work at all when on D-Cells only, so the "up to 2 years" remains. Sorry for the mix-up.
