Not capturing all motion

When I purchased the Ring all motion was captured including people coming up on my porch. Now it only captures some events. My neighbor asked for assistance with something that happened last night in front of my home and I couldn't help him. Can someone help me? Is there something in my settings?

Hey @Opal56! In order to point you in the right direction, could you provide a few more details about this issue? What kind of Ring device is having the issue with the motion? Proper mounting and placement of the Ring device can affect how it picks up motion. Also, by adjusting the Motion Settings based on your environment, we can optimize how it picks up motion. If possible, post a screenshot of your Ring devices view so we can access and adjust and get your device working properly!

Hello @Opal56 , Since your Ring did capture all motion before, most likely one or several of your settings got changed or modified. It is possible a change was done accidentally or an automatic firmware update changed something . . . I dunno, but it's worth double checking all your device settings on your phone app. Since you didn't specify which outside Ring Video model camera that you have (Doorbell model, or Stick-up, or Flood light, or Battery powered, or Wired plug-in powered, or 1st/2nd Generation, etc.) so it's a little difficult to give you specific guidance. Each doorbell or camera (depending on the model/power-supply/generation) sometimes have similar, but can have different setting-options. Note that where (zone) your camera looks for motion does not determine when it detects motion. So in setting generalities, you can (if your camera has these options): -Check the "Device Settings" to ensure both "Record Motion" and "Motion Alerts" are both toggled ON. If "Record Motion" is already toggled ON and motion events are being recorded (view "History" or "Event History") but you did not receive a pushed Notification to your phone, then toggle on "Motion Alerts." -Adjust "Motion Settings" to Deselect "People Only Mode" nor "Motion Verification" (options depending on the type of cam). While these are toggled ON, it can screen out non-people motion, such as animals or tree movement, etc. and miss some motion-events. Also, while in "People Only Mode", algorithms are used to determine if it is a human-motion by looking at both body-heat coupled with movement . . . and with hot summer daytime temperatures, these algorithms can have difficulty detecting body-heat movement against low-contrasting hot-backgrounds). -Adjust "Motion Settings" to set MAX on "Motion Sensitivity" (with "People Only Mode" toggled off). You will pick up more motion since it is not screening for people only. When "People Only Mode" is toggled ON, you will not be able to adjust "Motion Sensitivity." Then you can later decrease from the MAX setting in gradual increments until you get rid of most of your nuisance unwanted detections. -Adjust "Motion Frequency", an option with battery powered cams (and all doorbells are really battery powered even when wired, except the Doorbell Pro) and select "Frequent" which should capture more motions but can decrease battery life (but when 'wired' the trickle-charge will gradually restore the battery). Settings of "Standard" or "Light" will decrease the amount of motion that is captured, to extend battery life. Note that the "Motion Frequency" option is often missed, because you may have to scroll to the bottom of the displayed screen to see this option is available. -Adjust where you aim the cameras to optimize motion-detection. Avoid pointing cameras where other hot heat sources are in the activated Motion Zone detection areas. -Check each "Mode Settings" of "Cameras" to ensure your cam behavior in each mode is not disabled. Hopefully I covered a range of setting options (depending on your model/power-supply) that can increase your motion-detection. I hope this helps you. :)
