Ring Alarm repeatedly (6/7 times a year) switches to Cellular Backup then connects to WiFi instead of Ethernet
troubleshooting

Hi everyone I'm based in the UK and have a Ring Alarm and 4 cameras (1 indoor wired and 3 x outdoor battery) set up in a community centre. The centre is used by lots of different groups. Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, a seniors yoga group, there's a day-care twice a week and even a church on Sundays (yup the building was even commissioned as a place of worship). For the most part the Ring Alarm works flawlessly despite having about 30+ individual codes / users and schedules. Every 4-6 weeks though (sometimes many months or even just a few days) the Ring Alarm goes into Cellular Backup for no apparent reason. Whenever it does this the Ring Alarm stops using the ethernet cable and tries to connect to Wi-Fi. It failes to connect and switches to Cellular Backup. The 4 Ring Cameras all remain connected as does our August / Yale smart door lock, our Tado smart HVAC system and the HP workstation I installed to remote in when needed. Whenever I look at the router it's always been up and connected for weeks so it's not due to an internet outage. It's also occurring on random days of the week and at random times so it's not something that's happening on a schedule. Does anyone know when Ring push out their updates? The Cellular Backup is usually remedied by remotely rebooting the ISP Router however, the Ring Alarm stays connected by Wi-Fi and I have to visit community centre (30 minutes drive away) to reconfigure the Ring Alarm network settings to use ethernet again. Anyone got any ideas, any at all. I'm willing to test any theories if it means I don't have to drive over there to fix it. Thanks, William

Logic dictates that the Ring Alarm is switching to Cellular Backup because it lost access to the IP address its been allocated.  You say it tries to connect using Wifi, have you denied Wifi access in any way, blocking the MAC address or some such? If the Ring alarm has failed to connect to Ethernet, has tried but failed to connect to Wifi, it will revert to Cellular Backup as that's what is supposed to happen. I am not convinced it's a Ring Alarm problem, rather it's a router/switch/Mac or IP address allocation issue on the router side. Are you using DHCP or manual address reservation? The latter obviously more secure, but causes issues if you have something else attempting to use the same address. The fact that a reboot solves the problem, again suggests a corruption of fixed IP reservation. As you have very few products on the network, I would be inclined to swap to (or make sure you are using) DHCP. If this fails, make sure the router is up to date on its Firmware. If the router is getting on a bit, it might be worth replacing it for something a bit newer.  If the router is relatively new, I would be inclined to Factory Reset it, then add in the original SSID and Password so everything and everyone reconnects automatically, that would wipe any spurious schedules or IP/MAC address reservations or blocks that it might have created without you knowing. Just doing this helped a guy on here reconnect his Doorbell after months of it refusing to connect, yet there was nothing showing in schedules or address reservations, it's just one of those things that happens occasionally. Good luck!

Issue occurred again early this morning. Either a power event in the neighbourhood, probably a brownout or an update to the Ring Base Station or the router itself. Sinch the workstation is also now offline I can't see the logs for the router until I drive over and power it back on. The router is using DHCP and the original SSID. It's less than 2 years old and isn't under heavy load. Just the Ring Alarm, Ring cameras, Yale door locks, an HP workstation and an instance of Home Assistant I've power cycled the router via a GSM plug socket. All the cameras, Yale door lock and Home Assistant have reconnected however, the Ring Base Station is still using Mobile Data. It's a shame there's no remote restart available for the Ring Base Station. I've been looking at maybe installing some kind of fingetbot to press the pin hole reset on the Bast Station.
