Do I need to replace alarm motion sensor battery when it says ‘low battery’
I only spotted one of my 2nd gen motion sensor says ‘low battery’ when looking under alarm devices in the Ring App. No emails or notifications were sent, as they are when the alarm goes into away or disarm modes. Do I need to change the batteries now or can I wait until it says to? …. I spent over an hour looking in FAQs and googling - but couldn’t find anything as to when to change the batteries.

Thanks for the reply… I should have added does it just indicate when low as ‘low battery’ and when it needs replacing actually indicate ‘very low battery’ or more helpfully ‘replace battery’ and also send an alert notification and email? The reason is, had I not looked deep into the alarm devices in the App for other reasons wouldn’t have known it had a ‘low battery’… Surely an Alarm system should send notifications or emails for such important information?

I must admit to making it a monthly thing to check all battery levels, replacing if any show anything but full! I'm OCD, so that would explain part of that, but also I have no real idea about battery longevity of the various devices I've owned for around a year now. It doesn't help that when asking Ring about battery longevity, their answer is not very useful (depending on the weather and other variables), its just a cop-out as they don't want to spend the money of testing, relying instead on warnings, of which are not themselves helpful as there is no decent % scale on any of the Ring Alarm sensors. I've certainly received low battery warnings for my Ring Outdoor battery powered cameras, so I would think the same could be said for the various alarm sensors, but I can't say definitely, hence my fall back of "why not". Why not? Because Ring can't tell me how long they might last beyond the usual "up to", which is really no good to man nor beast.

JHi @ADT-WJT. This Help Center page states if you get a low battery warning, you should replace both batteries.

As I don’t seem to be able to reply to @Justin_Ring below I decided to add a comment here… … thanks for the link below Justin - it was for the contact sensors and not the motion but I’ll assume it’s the same advice. As user @63814 suggested I’ll change each year, for me they seem to last 15 months, but might as well… …. my main concern is you don’t get any warning notification or email - as I did when removing from the wall so received a ‘tamper’ notification and email. It just seems amis that warnings are not sent out for low battery, this is really important… … you only see the ‘low battery’ symbol when drilling down from the Dashboard to Devices then Alarm System. I’ll add this as a feature change request, which I see I can do. As the ‘system’ knows a battery is low, why not tell the user?

Excellent suggestions, let's hope they take notice. The newer contact sensors with button cells do last "up to 2 years" but I have to say that it really depends on the quality of the cells installed. I've bought Pound Shop specials that have almost no life in them. Be well advised to buy good brands like Energiser or Duracell to get decent longevity, it's worth it in the long run as I soon found out. It doesn't stop Ring sending out push notifications of a low battery though.

J@ADT-WJT. You should be getting Low Battery alerts for your Alarm devices. If not, check your Alarm Alerts to make sure you have Low Battery alerts toggled on for email and push notifications.

As I don’t seem to be able to reply to @Justin_Ring above I decided to add a comment here, as I did last time. I’d already checked in Settings, Alert Settings, Alarm and Low Battery is set on, as are all options. While I get them, E-MAIL and PUSH for others like Tamper etc I didn’t get any for Low Battery for my Motion Sensor even though in the status there was a red Low Battery. As others have said they don’t get them perhaps this would be looked into?
