Ring Spotlight Cam Pro not charging via Solar - hasn't worked since purchase 6+ months ago
Hi All, Firstly I have contact support about this issue, however keep getting told to reset the device or that everything is functioning the way it should be. To be honest I'm more than a little frustrated. Firstly the hardware that I have (that involves this issue) Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 2 x Batteries for Spotlight Cam Pro (both installed) 1 x Solar Panel (USB-C) Issue that I'm having Spotlight Cam Pro works fine, shows that the Solar charger is connected however fails to maintain or increase charge I have to physically remove both batteries every month or so and charge manually, this just isn't right Steps taken to troubleshoot Have hard reset to factory defaults three times Have tried forcing USB-C plug in further (this is widely reported to fix, but makes no difference) Have tried removing the rubber grommet that provides water tight seal on USB-C plug, doesn't make any difference Have ensured that Solar panel is in direct sunlight - I live in Australia, it is summer now moving into Autumn, the Solar gets at least 6-7 hours a day in full sunlight Have ensured that the Solar panel is generating power, with a power mater and also by plugging in my iPhone (it charges) and also my MacBook and looking at System Info I can see the solar panel charge at 3-4W (this is the right output as I understand it from my Solar panel) I've tried the most conservative power settings, makes no difference Currently running default settings after latest attempt to reboot Other info SSID = RSSI -60 and Green (access point is less than 10 meters away from Cam) Network disconnects = None, I have a healthy Unifi Wi-Fi network setup and a dedicated 2.4Ghz "IoT" network Solar Status = Connected "A Ring solar accessory is connected and able to charge this device" Battery images in top right corner of app = Both show as charging with the little solar sunlight showing also Events per day = ~15 (4 or 5 of them at night) Motion frequency = Periodically Motion Sensitivity = Auto Camera Motion Zones = I've only selected my drive and front lawn, no trees or the road out front Snapshot Frequency = 1 hour (Using recommended settings) Video Recording Length = Auto (using recommended settings) Given all of the above, and that I know the panel is outputting 3-4w of power for 6+ hours a day, this device should be adding charge during the day, sadly this isn't the case. The battery level never goes up, just down throughout the day and night. Hoping I've missed something simple, but feel that something is wrong with the Camera software or hardware, given I can confirm that the Solar panel is working just fine. PS - Just below the Ring Cam Pro, I have a Battery Doorbell Plus that has the Solar Charger for Battery Video Doorbell. This maintains 100% of charge at all times, monitoring the same area and I've never once had to consider charging the unit.
