Doorbells Feature Request

Especially battery devices need Advanced Motion Zones to get better quality alerts and less alerts, conserving battery power

In fact, once a device is properly installed on an account, we need to be able to make all changes remotely from the app instead of dragging the ladder outside to make a change on a camera 9 ft off the ground.

@ryancwray76 - Unfortunately it’s either all or none via the Alexa app settings for your doorbell. When I first installed mine I had the same issue and opted for none as I get notifications on my cell phones.

@eraderma - Maybe i’m not understanding, but the Motion Zones have little round “handles” so you can pretty much manipulate them as you like, all straight lines. Just click and drag the handles.

Nope, not for battery devices
I attached two screen shots
One battery doorbell
One battery cam

And a wired cam that is as you say

I have requested several times for battery devices to have same as wired devices

I have just splashed out on a Ring Pro and an Echo Show, described as a perfect pairing. I was expecting to be able to get the Echo Show to display the front door video automatically when there is any motion or a bell ring. I was most surprised to find that I have to ask the Echo Show each time before it will show me who is at the door. (the delay in the image appearing when I do this is also unacceptably long). Surely it must be possible to get the Show to display automatically whenever there is a ring or motion detected? This is such a fundamental requirement that I can’t believe it hasn’t been implemented. Have I missed something and it actually is possible?

Nope you didn’t miss anything. It’s been asked for many times. Hopefully they will make it available in the future.

To get an Alexa announcement on only one device, turn off the audio announcement under the Alexa camera setting and then setup a routine that is triggered by the camera motion detection. If you set the action as an ‘announcement’ you can select which Echo or Dot device you want to react to the motion.

Under the same routine you can also setup a time schedule, should you wish, so that the announcement is only given at times you want it to react.

When someone rings my doorbell, my first interest is seeing who rang it and (perhaps) talk to them before answering the door - that means I want an app that quickly gets me into Live View. Rapid Ring does a good job of this and it’s my first choice of an app for reacting to a ring event. But when I get a motion notice Live View seldom shows me what caused the alert - for motion I have to go back and review the video of the event. Since all Rapid Ring gives me is a Live View, motion notices have to be analyzed in the Ring app where I can opt for viewing recorded events.

Since I can pick which events an app alerts for I should be able to enable Rapid Ring for ring events and Ring for motion events - and that actually works. BUT - unless the Ring app is enabled for BOTH ring and motion the Motion Snooze option (which really only makes sense for motion events) does not work. For example, in the Ring app if you turn off ring and try to snooze Motion it tells you that “the feature is not available when Motion is turned off” even though Motion is actually turned on - if you also turn on Ring then Motion Snooze works.

This should be fixed so that Snooze works for whichever app is set to alert for motion. I should be able to snooze motion in the Ring app without also needing to configure the Ring app for ring too. Interestingly this works “backwards” - if I set Rapid Ring for motion (but not ring) then I can snooze motion in Rapid Ring and configure Ring for ring and it works - I just want the flexibility to use Ring for motion and Rapid Ring for ring without giving up the ability to snooze motion.

I enjoy my ring doorbell, and I see the cameras available and all of the new items as well. Unfortunately I won’t be adding any new Ring items until you figure out how to integrate with Google. The “walled” system largely keeps me away from Apple products and it will do the same for me with Ring.

It’s an unfortunate philosophy in technology and in life to not play nicely with others.

Hi guys,

I recently bought a ring doorbell. Very cool I might add. However the lack of doorbell chime options from the app but more importantly the lack of chimes which you can use on the Alex is soooo limiting. Surely this has been asked for dozens of times but I cannot find any easy way to see the answers and I haven’t got all day reading evertyones requests.

Q: Will we soon be able to select our own sounds from which are loaded on our phones. For example I have a number of cool mp3 ring tones which would make great door bells.

Hopefully this will also be reflected with what I can set my Alexa’s all over the house to repeat/announce.

also the sound of doors shutting and opening for when the door sensors record open and closed movement, etc.

You have such a great product but it lacks customisation…

On a seperate note, are their any bennefits to using the ring chime over my Alexa? Please don’t say customised ring tones

  1. When doorbell is pressed, Echo Show should have option to go to live view immediately without any action by me.

  2. When I recieve a motion detection and select the notification, there is too much of a delay and I often miss the action that caused the notification.

  3. Motion notifications that indicate “person at front door” vs “motion at front door”.

  4. Package identification, for example “package left at front door”.

Pleas show me the last week of people cominimg to my home

You can only see old events if your on the 30 day trial or paying for at least the basic plan.

Please add RTSP support. That’s standard feature for many security cameras.
Thanks

I would like to be able to detect and record motion on the street and make it available to the police. At the same time I don’t want it to trigger a notification. My suggestion is to enable this capability while retaining the notification I get when someone comes to my front porch. The doorbell already has multiple detection zones. One zone could be setup as record but do not notify.

so it seems this is a feature, but only with pro and elite? I don’t have custom motion zones on my Ring Doorbell two (wired/battery) or my Stick up Cam (wired). It seems the hardware here has to be mostly the same, just a difference in software? Why can’t the custom motion zones be available with the above hardware?

Please make your people detection actually work on all of your products, so cats, insects, shadows, headlights, and rain don’t set it off. I’m getting to the point where I just ignore the alerts, which makes me wonder why I’m still paying for your service. I hear from others the Nest cameras/doorbells do a pretty good job of facial and people recognition. I was generally happy with how easy the product was to install, but it’s really hard for me to recommend them to friends these days.
