Basic set up of security system

Hi, just purchased a security system, the base station installed straightaway but I can't seem to get any of the peripheries (range extender, motion detector, etc) to connect to it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to only connect one device at a time as per the instruction manual.
