Solar Charger

I purchased a Ring video doorbell solar charger and I have still been having to remove the doorbell for charging. The site said it was compatible to the original doorbell but this item doesn’t work. Help!

You’ll want to ensure it is getting about 4-6 hours of direct sunlight @jgaredo ! Can you send a pic of how the layout looks? Make sure it’s not under an eave or anything to receive the proper amount to charge your device. Thanks!

I wish I had used this resource before my purchase. I recently purchased a soloar charger for my original Ring Doorbell and have the same issue reported by @jgaredo and others in the community. The unit easiy gets the noted amount of sunlight. Prior to installing it, I fully charged the unit and in one day it drained to 85%. I made no changes in the settings. Since removing the unit, the battery level has behaved normally. The solar charger does not function as advertised, and a customer should not have to pay a charge o return a defective product. I also reached out via email to customer support days ago and there has been no response. This is all around dissapointing. I am hoping a Ring representative will respond to this post.

Hi @akasjl Is this for the Video Doorbell? Which one? Also, can you please submit a picture of your device to showcase how much sun it is receiving? Also, you mentioned that the device didn’t drain the battery before installing the Solar Panel, correct? Have you uninstalled the Solar Panel to test this? Thanks!

Jennifer, I have the original Ring Doorbell as I wrote in my post. Yes, I removed the solar panel and my unit is behaving normall as I also wrote in my post. I have attached the requested picture. This is towards the end of the day. The unit gets at least 6 hours of sunlight.

Attached are photos on my setup. There are no obstructions to my charger receiving sunlight. I am still having to charge my doorbell. This is unacceptable.

Hey neighbors! Happy to chime in for Jennifer here. When you go into your Ring app > Main Menu > Devices > Device connected to solar panel > Device Health, does it show that there is a solar panel connected? If your app is not showing the solar panel as connected under your Device Health page, you will want to ensure the device is connected properly. I recommend detaching the solar panel from your device and then attaching it back, while also ensuring that there is no dust and debris on the solar panels and at the connection.

After checking the connection, if you find that it is still not showing as connected in the Device Health section, please try resetting your Ring device (not the solar panel) by pressing and holding the setup button for 20 seconds. After this reset, re-establish the connection your device has in your Ring app by tapping on Reconnect or Change Wifi Network under Device Health. This will take you through another setup of the Ring device in the Ring app. Once completed, check the Device Health again to see if the solar panel is showing as connected. If the device is showing as connected, please ensure you are getting 4 or more hours of direct sunlight to the solar panel during the day to allow a trickle charge to your device. You will also want to ensure that your device is not discharging more than it is charging, as you may have an excess amount of events that could be draining the battery on your device.

In the event you may not see the solar panel connected still, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. They’ll be able to take a closer look at your individual device and offer more advanced troubleshooting steps.
