Hi @KT18262. The Solar Panel for your Ring Video Doorbell Gen 2 acts as a trickle charger and is meant to maintain the current battery level. If you are seeing a downward trend in battery life, be sure that you are not recording more than 35 events per day. This could cause the Solar Panel to not “keep up” with keeping your Doorbell usage.
I would first charge your Doorbell to 100%, then connect it to your Solar Panel. Once connected, press and hold the orange setup button for 20 seconds, then release. Allow the Doorbell to reboot for 1 minute, then follow these steps here to reconnect your Doorbell to wifi. After the Doorbell is reconnected, monitor its battery level for a few days. You should see the charge being maintained! Let me know if this works!
I charged 100% first, of course. And my Video Recording is shortest as 15sec.
Here is Sunny San Diego with daily Bright Sun Light at least everyday for 6 hours.
But everyday, loosing power about 5%. And motion detect is only 1 or less per day.
However, never charged up and keep loosing Battery Life every day.
It is obviously No Charging at all and with this Solar Charing and without Solar Charing, I do not see any difference. Maybe, this is defective Unit or it must be placed on the Table horizontallly to get Direct Sun Light? I wonder Ring is testing for regular usage on the Wall Mount Condition. Even Sunny San Diego, we do not get any Charge, I wonder other region, I cannnot believe it works… I expect clear explanation from Ring Company. Best regards
Hi @KT18262. The orange button is located on the back of the device. If the steps provided do not yield positive results, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. I need Solution for Solar Charger to do right job.
So far, Solar Charger does nto do anything and every day losing almost 5% Battery
wchih is same level before I purchased Solar Charger. Again, every day, Southern California Bright Direct Sun Light every day at least 6 hours, but zero Charging and losing 5% Battery Level every day even no t much Access in front of Ring BellDoor. Solar Charger is just Very Expensive Mount Plate which does not do any Charging Job.
Hi @KT18262. I apologize, I got you mixed up with the other neighbor on this thread who asked about the orange button. They steps I gave you were to try to set if resetting the Doorbell would cause your Solar Panel to start charging. In this case it may be best for you to reach out to our support team directly, as this a neighbor-to-neighbor support forum rather than a direct line to support. The information to contact support can be found in my previous post.
Interesting response. When I called customer support, the agent asked me several times to push the orange button. I repeatedly confirmed I have the Ring 2 which does not have an orange button, yet he asked again… I believe there’s a language barrier – more than words, just basic methods.
I have two issues; the first issue is the same as the initial gentleman. My doorbell worked fine. I thought I might save energy by utilizing the solar charger that is seated behind the doorbell. It refuses to charge. Furthermore, the chime on the wall inside my home DOES ring when someone is on my porch, and my phone buzzes. However, since engaging in the use of the solar energy panel, the outside bell works when pushed, but it no longer gives an audible noise outside to would-be trespassers.
I hope this two-part message wasn’t too confusing. You may choose to read it a couple of times.
