Turn off Status Light on new Indoor Cam

After buy 6 of these I find the blue led intrusive and counter-security minded. Anyone scoping the premises will certainly make note of the camera beacon “I am here” and know to avoid or disable the cameras on their return visit.

Seeing so many posts on this, it’s clear that Ring will not be accommodating. Trying to rationalize why this control is not left to the consumer leads me to only one answer - Ring is acting in their best interest, not yours. With this in mind, the real question is what other Ring interests will be pursued above and beyond the consumers?

This is the unforutnately dicotomy we face with these cloud based technologies. Ultimately, we can only push for and support open solutions which are not muddied by commercial interests which really put consumer needs last. Blue led’s have nothing to do with privacy. For now, electrical tape and support for community sourced solutions seems to be the best solution available.

Agreed. Black tape is such a poor solution.

The option to disable the blue light is simple to provide and then upto the user to choose. Who is it for otherwise - it’s not the intruder!

Agreed. Changed indoor systems for my nursery so it was the same as outside and the blue light shines down on baby every time they move which obviously doesn’t have a positive effect in a blacked out room!! Back to competitor until you resolve this. Very disappointing purchase.

I agree, this light is counter productive

You aren’t alone! Although there are several regular forum posts already (like here in the Security Cams forum) about this additional option you want, the Feature Request Board forum is where Ring Team look to see what improvements people might want. And the more “Thumbs Up” Kudo votes they see there will better get their attention, increasing the chances of them providing that request. You should click on the below links and add your Kudo vote, if you like the requesting author’s idea (add your “Thumbs Up” Kudo vote on the left side of the author’s starting post), to help get the attention of the Ring Teams on the links below (these are similar requests for a “Blue Light Option”, and I’ve probably missed a few others):

I agree - give us the option to turn it off - put any warning you want before you let us toggle it but dont suggest you know whats best for me in my situation.

Has this still not been fixed yet?

As the original poster, there is one fix: buy a different brand. its rediculous, really.

I just learned that my neighbor has a device that can block your ring camera from detecting motion. I reached out to ring last night and was told that they know.

Still why not give the camera owner the option to decide? Let the customer make the decision as to what trade offs they are willing to make.

I am trying to use the indoor cameras near windows to look outside. They work great in the day. I just turned off the IR, but want to reduce the glare by turning off the status light at night as well.

Hello @Sbgoldin ,

Yes, you are not alone in wanting to be able to turn off the blue LED status light as well. But unfortunately, that blue LED is not a controllable option on the Ring cameras at this time. You should add your Kudo vote the links I provided in this thread earlier, on Nov 8, 2020, where this request about the blue LED indicator status light has already been submitted. These links are to the “Feature Request Board” where Ring Teams look to see what options or ideas “Ring Neighbors” (owners) want. The more Kudo votes an idea/request gets, the more it should get Ring’s attention.

In the meantime, I resorted to using a small piece of black electrical tape, carefully positioned utilizing tweezers only over the Blue indicator light (so that it doesn’t cover the IR light or Motion-detector sensor that are above & below the Blue light). A crude solution, but the black electrical tape blends in very well and isn’t noticeable.

I bought one of these in the Cyber Monday sale to see how I would like it. Pretty good except for the annoying blue light. I was hoping there was a solution built in, but it looks like I’ll have to use electrical tape.

Please add the ability to put off the blue led!

I purchased my ring system because my young daughter snuck out at night. She now knows if she moves slowly enough the camera wont detect her she watches the blue light! She knows when the blue light is on its recording and she just stops and waits for it to turn off. The light should definitely be optional as of right now this product is almost useless for me. If my 10 year old can outsmart this camera because of the blue light bet a criminal can too. And yes my sensitivity is all the way up.

I just bought one of these.

Why why why would you put a dazzling blue light on a security camera?

What is wrong with these designers?

I have cancelled the order for the rest of the cameras. Can anyone recommend a different brand please? I need 6 to start with.

What’s more frustrating is that Ring has utterly ignored this feedback dozens of times for years.

I had no idea they were like this. I thought I was just missing something.

Thanks I’ll definitely do this. I agree, these cameras are privately installed on private property, why there needs to be a signal to strangers that their being recorded I don’t understand. My last system through Frontpoint had the option to turn off the led light on cameras and they called it invisible mode. I’m just glad using electrical tape won’t interfere with any other functionality, assuming it’s a small piece right over the light.

Thanks :pray:t2: :+1:t3:

I purchased the indoor cam to put in baby room because the baby monitor has limited range and its strange that ring does not have an option to turn off the blue light.

Even a $20 YI Cam has this option built in.

For those who suggested put tape one it, it messes with the night illumination.
