Light Schedule on Pause

Redboats, yeah, you not finding tech support knowledgeable about the problem is the problem…I find it hard to understand…

Maybe the team didn’t get the message…but if there is a fix possible over the phone seems logical this could be addressed globally with a permanent fix

My floodlight camera started doing this exact thing after my WiFi reset two days ago.
It will not follow the light schedule

Update: This was a reply to a much earlier post that was asking for a sunrise/sundown feature instead of manually setting the time, to avoid constantly changing the schedule through the season. I was think thinking it would be an in-line reply. Anyway, I will check the Greenwich time zone fix.

Actually they don’t need to change the hardware to implement what your asking for. These devices are connected to the internet, sunrise/sundown information is already available for their system to take advantage of. For instance on my Alexa app you can setup a timer based on a desired time or one of the options is sunrise/sundown. I used that routine for Xmas lights and it worked perfectly. It even provides the flexibility to set a +/- delay, for instance 15 min before sunset.

Anyway, the reason why I’m reading these posts is because I just bought a ring floodlight, Jan 2020, and my light simply ignores my schedule. I was initially annoyed that the app didn’t include the Amazon sunrise/sundown option to later feel a bigger slap on the face when the actual manual schedule didn’t even work in the first place. I know Amazon bought Ring but I think they’re still a separate team based in Southern CA. The rest of the Echo hardware is designed by the main team in Sunnyvale. A glitch like this occurring for this long on a device like this leaves me speechless. Grrrr!!!

Someone mentioned that they just created a routine in the Alexa app to control the light for sunrise/sundown. I’ve added the Ring skill to Alexa and I’m able to see the camera feed on my Alexa Show, but I don’t see how I can control the light. Thoughts?

Mine also has its own mind when it’s supposed to be on a schedule. My backyard flood cam is scheduled to go on and off at a specific time but doesn’t follow it at all. I can’t tell you how many times I wake in the middle of the night to complete darkness in the back.

Thank you ShelbyGT500! Setting it to GMT-6 worked for me, I just tested it. If you’re PMT change your start and stop times to 8 hours ahead and they work like they are supposed to.

As some of the posts mentioned, I did confirm that calling ring and asking them to set your time zone correctly works. Although I must say it took 2 calls, and a request to escalate. The tier one team seem to not know or not have access to the right setting. Let’s see how long this lasts, hopefully it won’t stop working the next time ring updates the unit’s firmware!

Having the same issue and this is a replacement camera. No matter how many times I try to schedule the lights to be on at night it doesn’t work… what’s the fix ?

I called and they changed my time zone to Eastern time.

Just had this issue resolved. The Floodlight Cam is set to UTC time which is +5 hrs from EST. You need to tell the support rep to change the UTC offset to -5.00:00 hours. Works perfectly now

Have you already tried setting via GMT time? If not, do that.

You have to call and have them change your light to your time zone. I did and now both my lights work correctly

Yep. You have to call and tell the person on the other line that they have to contact the person above them “the wizards” to change the camera time to your local time zone. I just received a replacement floodlight camera. Set it up and set the light schedule. It did not come on at 6:00pm EST. Called support. They tried to work me through a bunch of trouble shooting. I said NO. Just change the firmware to EST. After being on hold for a few minutes she said yeah you are right the floodlight camera needs to be set to EST. I said thanks and hung up. Received an email 5 minutes later stating that all is well. Sure enough the light is now coming on at correct time. Again. When you call the ring support be strong and tell them change the time zone on your device to save yourself aggravation. I love confrontation resolution. Peace.

Hi neighbors. We have the team investigating this. Thanks!

How long does it take to investigate this? It has been reported on this thread alone almost a year ago? False promises of hope!

It looks like the problem was fixed on my lights on/off time after a couple of Ring updates were downloaded…the lights now come on and go off local time without having to enter an offset for GMT…I never contacted Ring just decided to try it a couple weeks ago and it worked like it should after download

This problem has returned for me. I noticed a couple of days ago my light was off but the schedule says it should be turned on.

Time for support to check the time zone setting on my Ring again.

I’m in search of a camera that works after 11 pm! Any suggestions? I thought it was my internet Connection. I even spent over $100 to have my IT guy work on it. The lights flash all night on my plugged-in devices too.

Same issue here 3 years later with a solar pathlight . Dusk to dawn never works. The manual set time is off by 4 hours, yet they shut off at random times. Especially always at 1 am for some reason and i have to toggle the schedule off and on to get the lights back on. Ring seems to have never cared a out this issue from the looks of it, im in shock.

I called support support about this time zone problem i read about online, they just told me to return the light and had no dea what i was talking about. I doubt that is even a real solution at this point

Hi neighbors! If your Light Schedule is not working or appears to be paused, please try the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Check that location permissions for the Ring app are accepted and that the time zone and location in your Ring app are showing the correct information.
  • Ensure that if you manually turn your lights on before your Light Schedule’s start time, that you turn them back off as the manual command can override the Light Schedule.
  • Toggle your Light Schedule off and then back on.

If your Light Schedule still doesn’t work or you are seeing a message about it being paused, please follow up with our support team at one of the numbers available here. If you are outside of the US, please visit here to see how to contact support.
